Cycling Campaign for North Bedfordshire. Bedford is a relatively flat town and does not have many hills to cycle up except for the area around the Manton Estate and old cemetery. Outside Bedford it can be slightly hillier to the north and quite hilly to the south approaching the Greensand Ridge. Use a good quality lock that matches the value of your bicycle. Thread it through the frame and at least one wheel and secure it to something immovable, such as a cycle rack or railings. Nevertheless an average of the values shows that some 29,000 residents cycle at least once per month and 5,100 at least five times per week. This leaves some 128,000 who do not cycle at the present time which gives room to try and encourage some of them to take up cycling. The highways authority responsible for improving the network, since 2009, is Bedford Borough Council.
