Cecilia Schiller was first attracted to woodcarving many years ago to create puppets and masks for theatrical productions. She soon found herself captivated by the process and began exploring carving’s many styles and forms. After seven years of study in the European style of Relief Carving she traveled to Bali, Indonesia and learned to carve masks using her feet to secure the wood while carving with specialized knives, gauges and axes. Cecilia Schiller was selected from over 180 proposals to create one of the 18 holes for the new Can-Can Wonderland Mini-Golf Course to be constructed in a warehouse space in St. Paul in the Midway neighborhood and scheduled to open in Spring of 2016. Gallery of Masks and Puppets. Over the years I have created many puppets and masks for theatrical performances. Here are a few of the creations I have carved in wood. In 2000, I traveled to Bali, Indonesia where I did a three month intensive study of traditional Balinese Mask carving. That experience influenced my work in many ways and taught me valuable techniques that I have incorporated in to my skill set.

Is now on Permanent Display. Water is Life at Maplewood Mall. Cecilia Schiller, together with Willis Bowman, created. Water is Life,. An interactive, water driven, sculpture in the form of a tree that is meant to encourage the community to share in the responsibility of protecting water and keeping it clean. The sculpture is activated by rainwater from the roof that drains into a turbine, rotates the branches and plays a melody on chimes inside the trunk.
