Cowardly Lion's Roar

My Top 10 Movies by Year. Wednesday, October 19, 2011. I like a woman with an arse you can park a bike in and balance a pint of beer on". Links to this post. RATING: ☺☺☺. You only need five minutes of Micmacs. I particularly liked the fact the protagonist, a video club clerk, is so amazingly smart, a characteristic I attribute to the long hours of watching movies. I rather like this explanation better than a bullet in the head ;-). Another not to be missed work from Jeunet. Links to this post. When you w...

Cowardly Lion's Roar: In the Company of Men

http://celluloidinsanity.blogspot.com/2011/10/in-company-of-men.html

My Top 10 Movies by Year. Friday, October 14, 2011. In the Company of Men. RATING: ☺☺☺. I can't say I was impressed by In the Company of Men. It's a very good movie, but taking into account its controversial reputation for mysoginistic material, I couldn't but feel a bit disappointed for what I felt was a somewhat insipid material regarding that issue. Cowardly Lion's Roar: Contagion

http://celluloidinsanity.blogspot.com/2011/10/contagion.html

My Top 10 Movies by Year. Friday, October 14, 2011. RATING: ☺☺. As a moviegoer, it's a different story. Contagion. As a result, a relatively weak emotional involvement and impact with the viewers also hurts the message it carries. Perhaps it was done on purpose to avoid alarming people too much whenever a new flu epidemic shows up every year, but I doubt it. Should have go and watched Submarine instead. Oh well, next time. http://celluloidinsanity.blogspot.com/2011/10/thursday-unrated-directors-cut.html

My Top 10 Movies by Year. Wednesday, October 12, 2011. Thursday (unrated director's cut). RATING: ☺☺☺. Here's a few fun facts about Thursday. It's one of the most obscene movies I ever had the pleasure. Hi, I'm here to help fuck up your day. What about the movie per se? In all honesty, Mr. Ebert is right in his general assessment of the film. The only part he left out was that it's also damn entertaining. File this under guilty pleasures if you'd like. The Most Beautiful Fraud In The World

The Most Beautiful Fraud In The World. Sunday, 16 January 2011. And now for something completely different. Watching Shaw Brother’s 1980 anthology last night I was struck by the remarkable difference in the approach to superstition between the West and the East. Both culture have a health dose of ghosts and spirits and mean-spirited dead beings but the way they are depicted in popular culture differs so very drastically. Both stories clocked in at 45 minutes and both managed to surprise drastically: just...

Celluloid in Black and White

Celluloid in Black and White. A blog about black me and Old (read “white”) Hollywood. Sunday, 11 January 2015. Sidney Poitier, Mike Brown, and the Myth of Black Exceptionalism. You know what’s funny? I don’t even remember the first Sidney Poitier movie I saw. What I do remember is the feeling I had watching him move gracefully on my television screen: pride. He carried himself like a king. Heat of the Night. Into evidence as a visual depiction of America’s deep-rooted and violently intense fear of ...

July 12, 2011. It’s 1 in the morning on July 11th. I’m not tired and Naomi just got off AIM. I’m currently listening to the Lost Woods theme from Ocarina of Time. This is a great way to start the day. I got a B on this final, which kept my World Civ grade at a B, my best grade of the term (I’m still working on getting back into my old nerd ways of studying and being a good student that I purposely got rid of in 8th grade. Next year will be better! July 6, 2011. From Start to Finish. In Gym we went outsid...
