On a train, click-clickity-clacking through the Scottish countryside. I love it here. I have this intense desire to never leave this place. Kathryn and I at the Storytelling Centre. Lunch at the place where J.K. Rowling wrote Harry Potter, . and an afternoon exploring Edinburgh Castle. Even with my camera there's no way I could adequately capture fields of wildflowers against a soft blue sky. Grass so green. Do these colours even exist back home? OK, you caught me: this photo isn't from Scotland). We too...

Session, and I've finally gotten around to compiling and answering a few of your popular questions:. Shamrock. Leprechaun. Guinness. Rave On, John Donne. My year in Belfast. And beyond, apparently. Monthly Archives: January 2013. First of all, the article is titled, “29 cops hurt in Catholic-Protestant clash.”. Other side) “Catholics” are Nationalists or Republicans, and they would identify with the Irish nationality. There are many people in Northern Ireland whose politics and identity don’t fit either of those two sides. Still not a source. I’m not sure what the alternative is, but something about it isn’t right. I’ve also fou...

Several years ago, I read the book Eat, Pray, Love. By Elizabeth Gilbert. I imagine most of the people who are reading this have maybe at least heard of it. Not long before deciding to begin the process of applying for a YAV year, I finally rented the movie version on Netflix. At the time, I wrote down a quote from the movie and kind of forgot about it - until this evening, when I caught the movie again on TV. It felt a little like coming full circle:. I look about as tired as you'd imagine. Today I leav...

All Being Well" - a phrase I've come to know and love during my time here in Belfast. Typically, it's used when making plans: "I'll see you Sunday then, all being well." I love it because it serves as a reminder that things happen. plans change. It brings to mind a similar concept I learned during my time in Morocco: Insha'Allah (Inshallah). You don’t even know what will happen tomorrow. What is your life? It is a mist that appears for a little while. Then it disappears. 15. It’s rather unnerving t...

Rave On, John Donne. My year in Belfast. And beyond, apparently. Monthly Archives: December 2012. Things have been moving so quickly these days! Time has flown in the run-up to Christmas. In November, Grace and I went to Armagh to a concert at the Armagh Piping Festival. At St Patrick’s (Church of Ireland) Cathedral. It was excellent! As much as I&...
