Buffalo Central Terminal and the Railroad Passenger. Buffalo's first true railroad passenger station was built in 1848 on Exchange Street in downtown Buffalo. It was a relatively small brick building that was added to or changed on at least 5 occasions during its use. It was built by the New York Central and Hudson River Railroad, a part of Cornelius Vanderbilt's railroad empire which would eventually become the New York Central Railroad. Buffalo Central Terminal Telegraph Office circa 1959 to 1964. The pictures on this page were submitted by Mr. Floyd Baker. Who was employed by the New York Central Railroad at Central Terminal as an Operator and Wire Chief from 1959 until 1964. Here. Is Floyd's firsthand recollection of the Teletype area layout. The teletype printers shown in the pictures were type 15. Very mechanical and slow. According to Floyd they operated at about 60 wpm. Norm Neubig and Hal Schup together at the teletype machines.
