Roving, Batts, Blending - Central Virginia Fiber Mill
http://centralvirginiafibermill.com/roving-batts-blending.html
Central Virginia Fiber Mill. Roving, Batts, Blending. Roving, batts, blending. Washing - We have water which can reach 180 degrees so scouring is possible for sheep's wool. Carding the Fiber - the fiber is further opened and most of the remaining second cuts, guard hair and vegetable matter are removed. As the fiber comes off the roller it forms a web which will become either roving or batt. Well carded roving is a spinner's dream. Central Virginia Fiber Mill. 1710 Welsh Run Rd.
Felted Fabric - Central Virginia Fiber Mill
http://centralvirginiafibermill.com/felted-fabric.html
Central Virginia Fiber Mill. Roving, Batts, Blending. Felted Fabric is produced here at our mill. The process requires carding the fiber into batt which is then run through our wet felting machine. This produces a felt which holds together and can be used for anything where thicker fabric is appropriate. Dog and cat beds are particularly popular. Ladies purses are another favorite. Again let your imagination run free. Central Virginia Fiber Mill. 1710 Welsh Run Rd. Ruckersville, VA. 22968.
Spinning Yarn - Central Virginia Fiber Mill
http://centralvirginiafibermill.com/spinning-yarn.html
Central Virginia Fiber Mill. Roving, Batts, Blending. Spinning and plying machine. Spinning into Yarn - this is the most important of all the steps and it is here that each batch will be processed to its highest potential. Using precise calculations and "feel", we tune our spinner based on staple length, fineness and strength. This is an important step since over twisting will ruin the innate qualities of alpaca fiber and create a rope-like yarn. Central Virginia Fiber Mill. 1710 Welsh Run Rd.

Ramblings of a knitter, crafter, and full-time grad student. I mentioned a while back. That our fiber mill had finally sent us the spun yarn from Ivan’s first shearing (well, aside from my awful attempt. A couple months ago I used some of it to knit hubby a cabled hat:. The pattern is Knotty but Nice. It fits pretty well, although I think I might go up 3 needle sizes for the cable section if I knit this again. Both turned out very well – I’ll post photos soon!
