Australian Observer: AGL electricity customer service
http://aussieobserver.blogspot.com/2009/12/agl-electricity-customer-service.html
Thursday, December 24, 2009. AGL electricity customer service. This morning I had a series of conversations with my local electricity retailer, AGL, which left me wondering whether to find a stray cat to kick or a tall building to jump off. The letter acknowledges that “unfortunately you were not notified before the change occurred”. This letter led to the following five telephone conversations over the course of two hours, a great deal of which was spent on hold:. 4) I had a long conversation with a wom...

In “Our obligations still apply despite High Court win”, Sydney Morning Herald. 30 January 2015, Professor Jane McAdam writes that. The High Court decision on the detention of Tamil asylum seekers at sea turned on a technical reading of statutory provisions, not an assessment of Australia's international refugee and human rights obligations. At this afternoon's concert they played three works that had particular significance for them:. Peter Sculthorpe's Landscape II was commissioned by Musica Viva for the New England Ensemble.

Australian Observer: To Port Macquarie the interesting way
http://aussieobserver.blogspot.com/2009/10/to-port-macquarie-interesting-way.html
Saturday, October 10, 2009. To Port Macquarie the interesting way. I recently spent a couple of days with an old friend from university days on her farm outside Macksville in northern New South Wales. The arrangement was that she would drive me to Port Macquarie in time to catch a 5.00 pm flight to Sydney and thence to Melbourne. Beautiful beach, miles from anywhere, camping permitted on either of two reserves, for which you pay the caretaker the princely sum of about $6 per head per night. Maximum s...

http://aussieobserver.blogspot.com/2010/02/baggage-nightmares-with-v-australia.html
Tuesday, February 2, 2010. Baggage nightmares with V Australia. Yesterday my wife and I returned to Australia from a two-week skiing holiday in Utah (Park City), flying each way with V Australia’s daily service out of Sydney. The flying experience (passenger comfort, cabin cleanliness, meals, adherence to schedule) was of good standard. Unfortunately I cannot say the same about my experience of baggage handling, as the following account will indicate:. The V Australia representative on the ground at LAX ...

Australian Observer: Representations on behalf of Matt Joyce and Marcus Lee, detained in Dubai
http://aussieobserver.blogspot.com/2013/02/representations-on-behalf-of-matt-joyce.html
Friday, February 8, 2013. Representations on behalf of Matt Joyce and Marcus Lee, detained in Dubai. Dubai carries not only business risks; as a foreigner you could find yourself detained or jailed solely on the word of an official or a vindictive local, and denied diplomatic protection from your own government. The Matt Joyce and Marcus Lee Injustice in Dubai, and inexplicable neglect on the part of the Australian Government. In spite of an Australian superior court adjudging there to be no foundation w...
