Thursday, June 26, 2008. Best piece of mail.EVER! When I first moved out to the my particular corner of the midwest (or as I like to call it "the cornhole of america") I received a most intriguing piece of mail:. Very mysterious, no? I asked friends who I thought sent it and they all denied ownership so I was stumped. I wanted to put it on the blog right away but due to complete inertia, I still haven't replaced my broken camera battery charger. So I resorted to using the camera in my computer. Friday, A...

cephalopod centerfold: June 2007

http://cephalopodcenterfold.blogspot.com/2007_06_01_archive.html

Tuesday, June 26, 2007. An alert reader (thanks, Mom! Informed me of an article in the N.Y. Sunday Times Style Section on the Renegade Craft Fair. Which took place last weekend in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. According to the article. Which is hilarious), cephalopods are TOTALLY IN with the do it yourself crowd. This makes me a little bit fearful because it means that soon cephalopods may go the way of flannel shirts, hypercolor, and more recently, getting sparrows tattooed on each shoulder. Or dress it up wi...

Thursday, February 21, 2008. Goodbye tramp stamp, hello sucker implants! What can I say? If you're still considering a labret piercing you are soooooooo. Consider getting tentacle implants. The blog doesn't mention if the implants actually WORK or not. I'm guessing they are just for show and you can't use them to catch prey items, like your roommate's cat. Thanks to MORONG for sending this in. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Goodbye tramp stamp, hello sucker implants! View my complete profile.

cephalopod centerfold: November 2007

http://cephalopodcenterfold.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html

Wednesday, November 28, 2007. My roommate's old roommate (I can draw a lineage for you if you like) created an amazing squid costume for Halloween. I am not surprised by her cleverness, for I recall that one year she spent hours crafting a banana costume (that is now rotting in the basement). Cole, you look squidtacular:. Though what are you holding? This one shows that even squid will take public transportation to help save the planet. I can only imagine that is a nalgene bottle full of sea water? I can...

cephalopod centerfold: Viva octopus lovin'!

http://cephalopodcenterfold.blogspot.com/2008/04/viva-octopus-lovin.html

Tuesday, April 8, 2008. Behold, Abdopus aculeatus. A small octopus that lives in the waters off of Sulawesi, Indonesia. Christine Huffard, a grad student at Berkeley (now a post-doc at the Monterey Bay Aquarium) was studying a large population of these octopuses and discovered some of their (until now) secret bedroom tactics. Researchers found that male Abdopus aculeatus. Eat your sandwiches octopuses! Male octopuses do not like skinny bitches! I ruthlessly stole information from the Globe and Mail video.

Seen in my neighborhood while walking the dog. I like the vague threatening nature of the sign. And what is "it" that they will put on check? What is putting something "on check"? And what's up the strange use of quote marks? Posted by Ironic collector. Be Like the Squirrel, Girl. What the hell does that even mean? Photo of the Day.

Still More Winter Visitors. We also get deer at the feeders - there are three little ones who were probably born this year. They have short round faces, with short rounded ears. They are pretty shaggy with their winter coats. They also get a lot of burrs on their bottoms, which just cracks me up. Posted by Ironic collector.

Everywhere you look: Unintentional puns. Word plays. Weird little ironies. Strange signs. Things that should be amusing. Take a photo. Name the madness. Thursday, May 20, 2010. A good day at work. Monday, I went out with the National Park Service People for their annual eagle banding. How do you get eagles out of the tree? The chicks are then banded, measured, and have blood taken for DNA work, as well as contaminant analysis (lead, mercury, PCBs, flame retardants, etc). The chicks can't fly yet, and the...

Edible, Inedible: Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams

http://edibleinedible.blogspot.com/2008/01/jenis-splendid-ice-creams.html

Wednesday, January 16, 2008. Jeni's Splendid Ice Creams. Right after the holidays, I drove from Arizona to Boston. We were on a mission to get to Boston, and it is winter, so we just drove, drove, drove and didn't really make any fun stops on the way. Except for in Ohio. OHIO! We stayed with our friends (and the crazy kitten Mali) on their farm in western Ohio. We each got a trio, three scoops in a bowl with a wedge of waffle cone. I had gravel road, belgian chocolate, an butterscotch with cocoa nibs.
