Resistance to or failure of cancer drug treatment is often caused by the inability to deliver sufficient amounts of drug inside the cancer cell, where the drug has its target. We are working towards clinical testing of the co-administration of SCL's with doxorubicin (CB001) and are investigating additional drug-lipid combinations with significant enhanced efficacy ( see pipeline. Ceronco is developing CB001, which is liposomal formulated doxorubicin. Enriched with GlucosylCeramide (GC). Experiments show that with GC-enriched nanoliposomes doxorubicin is taken up more effectively in cancer cells, leading to a substantial increase in the cytotoxicity of doxorubicin.
