Cerulean Sky: Spring.
http://ceruleansky15.blogspot.com/2013/04/spring.html
Sunday, April 28, 2013. Spring. It's the best. The Golden-winged at the Tip or the Cerulean on Tilden? How far am I willing to chase a rarity before it's considered insane? Do I want a Green Goddess or a Black Bean Burrito? Later in the day, after a long break, an omelet, fries, toast, 2 granola bars, a milkshake, and enough coffee to keep a Snorlax awake, I went to Kopegaron Woods just to try something different. I hadn't even entered the main trail when a Worm-eating Warbler jumped out of the brush!
Cerulean Sky: March 2013
http://ceruleansky15.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html
Saturday, March 30, 2013. Punxsutawney Phil's prognostication: early spring (but according to Wikipedia, he's only right 39% of the time). So on a year where spring is arriving late, my LeSabre's heat has ceased to function (not all that surprising since its dashboard currently emits a stunning light show of multitudinous warning messages: " gas cap loose. While driving past neighbours' homes that I pray haven't woken up in time to look out their window and see that weirdo Hatt boy driving around w/ his ...

Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Henslows Sparrow/Kentucky Warbler at the Tip. What An. Evening. On a day where a number of texts and Ontbirds posts were indicating a great day at Pelee, I was excited when work was done and I could head over to try my luck at some of the rarities that were around. I ran over and sat down on the tram. I waited patiently. Waited some more. Waiiiited.the huh? Worm-eating Warbler (heard last year but not seen). Louisiana Waterthrush (heard last year but not seen). 12:05pm - Bite int...

Hieronymus Bear: Bears & whales & squirrels & Brackleys, oh my!
http://hi-bear.blogspot.com/2011/11/bears-whales-squirrels-brackleys-oh-my.html
Monday, November 28, 2011. Bears and whales and squirrels and Brackleys, oh my! But I'm pretty happy with the result:. To the left is the envelope/cover I made by hand (at 1 am Somehow the folds and flaps all lined up despite the lateness) and to the right is the establishing shot/first image of the story. When I get it back I think I'll scan everything and post the entire project here - the story I ended up creating is pretty entertaining (maybe someday I'll even continue it). I also managed to finally.

Hieronymus Bear: July 2011
http://hi-bear.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html
Tuesday, July 19, 2011. Phew The full weight of summer is resting its humid elbows directly on my city, making it hard to work on anything (all I want to do is lie in front of my fan and/or curl up inside my refrigerator), so I don't have a ton of work to update with at the moment. Instead, I'll post a trio of strange birds I painted a few months ago AND show off my now-set-up studio workspace! 1: BIRDS. WITH ANTLERS. Another sort of Tragopan (can't remember the exact kind). Bulletin board detail - finis...
Hieronymus Bear: September 2011
http://hi-bear.blogspot.com/2011_09_01_archive.html
Wednesday, September 21, 2011. Just a quick update before I get back to my heaping piles of homework (school is kicking my butt in the best way possible). Finally got around to scanning in the work I did while I was up at the cottage and thought I'd better toss at least one piece up on this here blog while I had a moment. The following is the first anatomical animal (of about seven) I've completed:. Tuesday, September 13, 2011. Hey guys, where the hell did the rest of August go? I suppose spending the la...
Hieronymus Bear: Even More Progress!
http://hi-bear.blogspot.com/2011/12/even-more-progress.html
Monday, December 5, 2011. Now that school is pretty much over, I'm working on spending as much time as possible working on The Show. I made some major progress on the weekend, getting a new large piece started and continuing the process of giving R.W. Brackley, my main character, a proper face. The first piece on which I worked is the second in the anatomy series - this one's a great auk, and his main washes are almost done! And of course, Brackley, now more than just a series of pencil lines! Blogroll -...
Hieronymus Bear: Deep Sigh of Relief
http://hi-bear.blogspot.com/2012/02/deep-sigh-of-relief.html
Sunday, February 5, 2012. Deep Sigh of Relief. On February 3rd, 2012, A Collected Collection opened at Freedom Clothing Collective (939 Bloor St West - show's up until March 26th! You haven't missed it! Lit by the blinking lights of paper jellyfish and filled with wonderful friends and family, the gallery was a perfect home for the discoveries of my beloved R.W. Brackley. Before all the festivities of opening night, though, there was hard work to be done. AMAZING). That element? LED Jellyfish, hooray!
Hieronymus Bear: Own-Art Progress
http://hi-bear.blogspot.com/2011/11/own-art-progress.html
Saturday, November 12, 2011. I have finally made some time in which to work on my own art (seeing as I have that show coming up in, oh, 2.5 months). This time is found between the hours of 10 pm and 1 am Good thing my brain is productive at night. As per usual, here are some crappy photobooth shots of one finished piece and one in-progress one. On the bright side, I found my camera. Now I just need to find some batteries. First off, I finished the whales! Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Bears and wha...

The Story So Far…. How Pop Culture Leads and Misleads. Month: September, 2012. September 13, 2012. In a city of famous buildings, the one I wanted to see didn’t actually exist. Officially, the address of this New York landmark is 245 East 73. Now, going back to New York at the age of 26, I know myself. I may not own a T-shirt that says I’m a Carrie (and not just because HBO doesn’t sell them in men’s sizes! But I can admit I’m a ‘Sex and the City’ obsessive. I drew a map in my notebook, along with the lo...

Sunday, January 05, 2014. The Great Thick-billed Murre Chase. Like many good birding adventures, this one started with an Ontbirds post and alcohol. Jeremy was at Mark's apartment and someone had reported a Thick-billed Murre at a downtown harbour in Kingston. This was one of few modern records for the species; a mega-rarity. And it sounded reliable. Reading the post, they poured another rum and coke, liberal on the rum, conservative on the coke. So, what do you think? Shit," Mark said. Here's the plan&#...
