A Baltimoron playing with sugar. Thursday, September 5, 2013. Do You Like Piña Colada Empanadas? AKA Pineapple Empanadas, Take 2. So, I did a little playing and came up with my own twist on pineapple empanaditas. As far as I'm concerned, you can't go wrong with coconut. And if you've got pineapple and coconut, why not add a little rum? Piña Colada Empanadas (adapted from Eating Well. 1 1/2 c chopped fresh pineapple*. 1/3 c pineapple preserves. 1/4 c shredded coconut. 1/4 c whole wheat flour. For the glaz...

Sugared Sam: October 2012
http://sugaredsam.blogspot.com/2012_10_01_archive.html
A Baltimoron playing with sugar. Saturday, October 6, 2012. Just a quick post tonight. This weekend I made an anniversary cake - not just any anniversary cake - a 70th anniversary cake. (Did I just write anniversary cake three times in one sentence? You'll have to forgive me. I always get a little loopy after a big job.). Anyway, 70 years. How great is that? I wanted to take a minute to share that with you. I LOVE taking a blank slate - or cake. And making something to help celebrate a special event.

A Baltimoron playing with sugar. Tuesday, August 28, 2012. Daring Bakers’ Challenge August 2012 – Filled Pate a Choux Flamingos. Kat of The Bobwhites was our August 2012 Daring Baker hostess who inspired us to have fun in creating pate a choux shapes, filled with crème patisserie or Chantilly cream. We were encouraged to create swans or any shape we wanted and to go crazy with filling flavors allowing our creativity to go wild! They were just lovely. I followed the vanilla pasty cream recipe Kat provided.

A Baltimoron playing with sugar. Monday, April 30, 2012. Daring Bakers' Challenge April 2012 - Armenian Nazook and Nutmeg Cake. The Daring Bakers’ April 2012 challenge, hosted by Jason at Daily Candor, were two Armenian standards: nazook and nutmeg cake. Nazook is a layered yeasted dough pastry with a sweet filling, and nutmeg cake is a fragrant, nutty coffee-style cake. With just one twist. I added the seeds of half a vanilla bean to the filling. Rolled out the dough. Ready to pop in the oven. Grease a ...

May’s Daring Bakers’ Challenge was pretty twisted – Ruth from The Crafts of Mommyhood challenged us to make challah! Using recipes from all over, and tips from “A Taste of Challah,” by Tamar Ansh, she encouraged us to bake beautifully braided breads. So, whadda you do when it's crazy humid and a bazillion degrees outside? Why, crank up the oven and bake some bread, of course. (Yes, I am Polish.). While sea...

Sugared Sam: Daring Bakers' Challenge - Gevulde Speculaas
http://sugaredsam.blogspot.com/2013/02/daring-bakers-challenge-gevulde.html
A Baltimoron playing with sugar. Sunday, February 17, 2013. Daring Bakers' Challenge - Gevulde Speculaas. I’m a terrible blogger. Since the sudden loss of my dad I’ve felt adrift. Just forcing myself through each day seems to take all of my (limited) energy and (reduced) brain power. But let’s face it, just existing is no way to go through life. If you’ll bear with me, I’m making an effort to rejoin the world. I used to love playing in the kitchen. I used to love doing lots of other creative things.
