Saturday, May 17, 2014. Fort Frances Budget Delayed. Town of Fort Frances is hoping to finalize its budget by the end of this month. Council had planned to pass it at its meeting this past week. Mayor Roy Avis says some recent changes impacting the assessed value of the Resolute Forest Products mill which is being closed played into a delay. Thursday, May 29, 2014. Fraser Institute Reviews Ontario Pension Plan. The Fraser Institute is throwing cold water on the Liberal's plans to create an Ontario Pension Plan. The Conservative think-tank suggests it will costs Ontarians up to $3,400 a year - nearly $7-thousand for a working family. Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Road Closure In Atikokan Area. A forest access road in the Atikokan area is closed because of a washout. The Ministry of Natural Resources says a culvert failed on Premier Road at Kekush Creek, about 24 kilometres northeast of Sapawe. The Ministry hopes to have the road reopened by the end of next week. It, along with Rainy Lake Tribal Resource Management are monitoring other road conditions, but so far no other problems have been identified. Premier To Re-Introduce Failed Budget.

Thursday, May 15, 2014. A recognition of the past. A new exhibit about the mill in Fort Frances is now open at the Fort Frances Museum. It's opening was intended to be a celebration of 100 years of operation, but curator Sherry George says last week's closure announced dampened that somewhat. Tuesday, May 13, 2014. Tourist Centre To Reopen. Ontario's former tourist information centre in Fort Frances will be reopening. Mayor Roy Avis says they've reached an agreement with the province for the town to take over the shuttered building on a one-year lease.
