The interesting story behind this one of a kind small boat which saw many years of service in the U.S. Coast Guard. NEW photos just added. The CG 40300 in 1974. In 1938 the Coast Guard was looking to replace the TRS 36 foot wooden marine life boat. The 36 foot life boats were constructed using high grade straight grained oak which was becoming hard to find.
