The Columbia Gorge Children's Advocacy Center was created to provide children suspected of being victims of abuse with a medical interview and examination to evaluate the health and safety of the child, and to document and collect any evidence of suspected abuse, determine the diagnostic findings, and develop medical treatment recommendations based on the history and examination of the child.

Oregon law defines physical abuse as an injury to a child that is not accidental. The public plays a key role in reporting suspected child abuse or neglect by reporting to law enforcement or child welfare. People in certain professions are mandatory reporters and, by law, must make a report if they suspect child abuse.
