Chada Katavi - The Original Katavi Camp

Chada Katavi - The Original Katavi Camp. Friday, July 5, 2013. This little beauty is a Green Night Adder I found outside my office! It was the first time for me to see this specimen so was really exciting. They have a relatively small and scattered distribution in central, east and west africa, so to see one is a real bonus! Snakes are wonderful to photograph, especially slower sluggish ones like this and guests in camp enjoyed the photo shoot! Thursday, July 4, 2013. Back in Camp after the Rains. Till N...

Chada Katavi - The Original Katavi Camp: June 2012

http://chadakatavi.blogspot.com/2012_06_01_archive.html

Chada Katavi - The Original Katavi Camp. Tuesday, June 26, 2012. As the water is slowly drying up in Katavi we are witnessing the beginning of the extremes that makes Katavi famous, and. Large amounts of hippos begin congregating together. With this many personalities together it is only a matter of time before someone gets upset. After picking guests up from the airstrip our guide, Paulo Siololo, came across a road block. A hippo who had lost a great battle. What a way to enter Chada Katavi! Till next t...

Chada Katavi - The Original Katavi Camp: May 2012

http://chadakatavi.blogspot.com/2012_05_01_archive.html

Chada Katavi - The Original Katavi Camp. Saturday, May 26, 2012. With Chada closed for the green season it is now time to get it ready to open. Last week we flew into Katavi for the first time as the new managers as Mark and Kristen step into the relief manager position. The Mahoney’s have come to welcome us to Chada and “Minnie Me” has grown up as his tusks are starting to show. While “Masai” is still being her grumpy self. We look forward to staying in touch Justin and Jacky. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

Wednesday, June 29, 2011. Asilia Camp Sightings for the past week. THE SAYARI WILDLIFE REPORT. This week’s wildlife perspective! The most facsinating thing was a little cub playing with his father’s manes and tail, which seemed to be enjoyable for both of them. We also happened to spot a black Rhino around ikunga circuit one male, female and calf. Well, the migration is still an ambiguos subject in a moment, they are still on a move and majority are arround Lobo and Bologonja. Olivers Camp Wildlife Report.

Four topics were covered, namely Geology with Dr Abigail Church, Botany and Id of plants with Annie Powys, insects with Dino Martins and finally birding with Clint Shipper. These were the trainers for the 2 weeks of training and the guides divided into four groups and had three days with each trainer. Black and White Cuckoo.

Everything Guiding: April 2012

http://asiliaguides.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html

Thursday, April 5, 2012. So the 2011/12 season has come to an end and what a season it has been. Busy camps, safaris, happy guests and many wonderful wildlife sightings. This is the time of the year when everybody takes a well deserved break until the next season starts again in early June. This is also the time of the year when we do allot of staff training. Blindfolded, make a even sided triangle and point it to Mt Meru. Crossing a "river" and having to build a perfect tower of tins on a float! Thanks ...

Wednesday, September 21, 2011. With binoculars you will notice the pretty blue above the eye. All of this is really interesting stuff to see and show your guests, and all it takes is a few minutes of looking through your binoculars and interpreting what you see and this you can do with almost any other animal. It does not mean there was no Leopard, you just did not see it! From far away just another sausage tree, but looking through binoculars, something special! So next time when you are out guiding try...

Monday, August 29, 2011. Well done Stanford this is indeed a once in a lifetime sighting. But butterflies are probably the most well known of all insects and many peoples favorite insects. Adults normally have beautiful colors and feed primarily on nectar but they also get nourishment from rotting fruit, animal dung and dissolved minerals in wet sand or dirt. Saturday, January 14, 2012. I thought I would share the following series of photographs that show a battle that took place in Zambia's Luangwa River in Luangwa National Park. This was send to me via email and by now has been send all over the world I'm sure, but for those who have not seen it yet, pretty amazing! Attack: The crocodile sprung from the water as a baby elephant and its mum were having a drink from the river. The baby elephant went to hide behind mum as the croc attacked. With her baby safel...

Wednesday, October 24, 2012. Vulture Crisis in Africa and the World. White backed Vulture in Flight, Masai Mara Kenya. Lets face it Vultures are not really on peoples favorite animal or bird list, but primarily because they are very miss-understood birds, who play a very important and vital role in our environment and not just here in Africa but also in the rest of the world. You can also read Darcy's article Dropping Dead: causes and consequences of vulture population declines worldwide here. So the nex...
