The Tithe Award for Chalfont St Giles. The Tithe Award and accompanying map were produced in 1840. The award lists all all owners and occupiers of land with each piece of land and house listed. The area of each piece and its use is also specified. The original map is very large yet is difficult to read. It has been transposed onto a series of sheets using the 6 inch OS map of 1890 as a basis. (I have yet to load it). The map of the Village Centre. On the Village Centre Map.

Town Farm House was a significant building within the village and it occupied the area between Sandford's and the Forge. It was demolished completely between 1898 and 1902 to extend the drive of Stratton Chase House to the village. It is clearly shown in on the earliest Ordnance Survey maps and is referred to in William Gurney's obituary in November 1921 as "the old farm house which stood where the entrance gates to Stratton Chase are now situated". Revised and updated 2016. The building is currently known as 'Sandfords'with a 'd' although some times called 'Sandford House'. Up to 1895 it does not have a name, In 1895 it was called 'Town Villa' but quickly became 'Sanford' (no 'd') by 1899 and then the modern Sandfords by 1907. Who was the Dodd in Dodds Lane? Content revised 28 January 2007. Dodds Lane is so called because it was the lane leading to Dodds . This was a small land holding just the north west of Mill Lane and north east of Hill Farm Lane. It is now built over by the houses erected in Stratton Chase Drive. The Russell family had a legal battle with a Thomas Redinge and a Thomas Butterfield who claimed ownership, but Russell won.
