My pillows are the result of crossing paths with a long ago friend. She can no longer weave. So, I ended up with part of her yarn stash. Not having enough of any one yarn for a long run, I experimented. These 2’ x 2’ pillows are two-of-a-kind studies in color and texture! Some are filled with down; some with polyfil; all with the joy of friendship. I love to set a beautiful table. I love to work with linen. Here are tablerunners woven in Norwegian and Finnish linen.

Nordic rugs: paintings for the floor. The nordic rugs are my passion. Each rug is a one of a kind. I use Scandinavian techniques on a Scandinavian countermarche loom, an old Toika. I handcut strips of fabric, often during Celtics games. Sometimes, I design the rug going in and out of a color or color group, producing a softer look. Sometimes, I work highly contrasting colors next to each other for a more urban, edgy look.

My wearables are color and simplicity in functional and decorative pieces of clothing. The bamboo scarves get their patterning from the yarn itself, not from my setting pattern onto the loom. This is a wondrous fiber, new to me, which I really enjoy exploring. The shawls are woven or knitted from various cottons, silks, wools, and mohairs. They are long, to not only drape, but to wrap around the body. Sometimes they are used as big scarves.

When I was ten, I first learned to weave on an inkle belt loom at a girl scout meeting, where weaver and author Evelyn Neher was a guest. In high school, I drove from my home in Stamford, Connecticut to nearby Greenwich to learn floor loom weaving from fabric designer and author Klara Cherepov. I learned to go from two to three dimensions from sculptural knitter and author Katharine Cobey, of Cushing, Maine. She taught me that fibers can speak.
