Christ's College Chapel Cambridge: 1510-2010. Picture by Chris Burridge. The Chapel of Christ’s College. Was consecrated on or around 1 June 1510 by the then bishop of Ely, James Stanley, whose father was Thomas Stanley, 1st Earl of Derby. Thomas Stanley was Lady Margaret Beaufort’s fourth husband and therefore the bishop’s step-mother. As a place of education, religion, learning and research, the presence of a Chapel was necessary, in which Mass was said for the benefit of its benefactors and foundress.
