The Ministry of Cookies: Housekeeping
http://ministryofcookies.blogspot.com/2012/07/housekeeping.html
The Ministry of Cookies. Monday, July 30, 2012. Headed out of town soon, I've got housekeeping on the mind. A stack of bills to pay, a leaking faucet, and more dust in the new place than the old one (at least more dust that I'm noticing). Is it the carpet? When I 'fessed up to her that I had been without the recipe- for years, at this point- she asked, "How are you managing to keep house without them? How, indeed, my husband also asked- since I had been without the recipe for as long as I had known him.

The Ministry of Cookies: August
http://ministryofcookies.blogspot.com/2014/08/august.html
The Ministry of Cookies. Tuesday, August 26, 2014. It still is, isn't it? And that would explain why I'm both late coming back to the blog and the fridge is filled up with all kinds of late-summer goodness. The weather took a turn yesterday, and there's a chill in the air suddenly. It feels like back-to-school weather, and I should be sitting in meetings all week. But I'm not. I'm on sabbatical, messing up my kitchen and playing with green chile and peaches and corn and all sorts of goodness. I read, I t...

The Ministry of Cookies: January 2013
http://ministryofcookies.blogspot.com/2013_01_01_archive.html
The Ministry of Cookies. Tuesday, January 1, 2013. I've been reading other people's posts about New Year's traditions, including black-eyed peas, greens, pork, sauerkraut, and others. In my family, we have no particular tradition, though New Year's Eve usually calls for another round of Taco Soup or for a generic collection of party food. This morning we spent in the offices, preparing for the rush of January term that begins tomorrow (! 1 onion, sliced. Butt/shoulder, you could cube it before cooking).

The Ministry of Cookies: June 2014
http://ministryofcookies.blogspot.com/2014_06_01_archive.html
The Ministry of Cookies. Monday, June 30, 2014. Many people's initial reaction when I mention my new diet (and, let's face it, I've mentioned it to just about everyone in the last six weeks or so, including total strangers) is "What do you eat? Frankly, it was my first reaction, too. Wet Ingredients (mix together). 1/2 c unsweetened applesauce. 1/4 c canola oil. 1/2 c brown sugar. 1 Tb Penzey's Baking Spice (or good cinnamon). 3 c rolled oats. 1 c steel cut oats. 1 c nuts (slivered almonds are my choice).

The Ministry of Cookies: December 2012
http://ministryofcookies.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
The Ministry of Cookies. Wednesday, December 26, 2012. The Feast of the Incarnation. We took a bit of a break there to travel, to shop, to wrap, to bake, to party, to sing, and to shovel the snow (and to grade the last papers, but those aren't worth mentioning). But now we're in the midst of both the secular and liturgical feast, eating and laughing and eating and playing and eating and sleeping and eating a little bit more. Perhaps none of these meals is remarkable in itself, but the point of the feast ...

The Ministry of Cookies. Wednesday, July 16, 2014. Pray to End Hunger. That's what the sidewalk-chalked entrance to the prayer labyrinth said. Pray to end hunger.". On the lines that traced the labyrinth, we placed rows of canned goods and boxes of pasta. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Give us this day our daily bread. Or cupcakes. Pray to End Hunger. The Ministry of Cookies: September 2014
http://ministryofcookies.blogspot.com/2014_09_01_archive.html
The Ministry of Cookies. Tuesday, September 2, 2014. So, when we were invited to a Labor Day potluck last night, I mulled over the possibilities, thinking both of the veggies that needed to be used and the sustenance I would desire. Spicy Rice Noodle Salad (mostly vegan and gluten free). 1 (8 oz.) package of rice noodles, prepared according to directions and then rinsed with cold water. 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced (I used the slicer on my food processor for the veggies). 1/3 c seasoned rice vinegar.

The Ministry of Cookies: What's for Dinner?
http://ministryofcookies.blogspot.com/2014/07/whats-for-dinner.html
The Ministry of Cookies. Monday, July 14, 2014. But since every month at least one of these magazines finds the advice useful for someone out there, I contemplate it briefly, and promptly ignore it. Planning meals at my house means keeping a (relatively complete) running tally of what's in the fridge and freezer in my head at any given moment and knowing that we can go out for dinner on Friday night since by then there's precious little left (Saturday morning is shopping day, as you know).
