CSA

http://www.charlestownfarm.com/csa.html

SA stands for Community Supported Agriculture, and we think of it as just that: a partnership between our farm and our members. Each year, our members purchase a share of the upcoming harvest, which they pick up from the farm each week. E harvest our vegetables when they’re perfectly ripe, so members can take them home and eat them! Nd the best news is, our CSA is more than just weekly produce! Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants. T Charlestown Farm, we eat a lot of plants. Why?

2

Farm Equipment

http://www.charlestownfarm.com/equip.html

Here is a partial list:. This special mower chops our cover crops so they can be plowed under easily. Our rollover plow has 3 ploughshares on each side and it rolls over at the end of the row. This way, all of our furrows face uphill to conserve precious topsoil. After we plow, we drag the disc over the filed to break the clumps left by the plow and prepare our fields for planting Brillion Seeder. This versatile weeding attachment has special tines on springs to scratch the soil and eliminate weeds.

For Members

Read This Week's Newsletter. News and Upcoming Events. We are thrilled that so many of you will be back at the Farm in 2013! Our seed orders have been placed and packages are arriving daily. Soon our greenhouse will be full of young seedlings. We are planning to have a member day in May so you can come get a preview of the goodies to come in June. We'll fire up the pizza oven, give tours and have some special children's activities too. The date is not set, but will be soon. Tuesday 1pm to 7pm.

4

Why We Farm

http://www.charlestownfarm.com/how.html

Simply put, we take great care to grow delicious and healthful vegetables without chemicals. The tricky part is how we actually do this. Healthy soils grow strong and productive plants. We keep our soils healthy by planting green manures, also called cover crops, that add important nutrients and organic matter. Legumes like hairy vetch pull nitrogen out of the air and deposit it in the ground where our plants can use it.

Ur CSA season starts in early June and continues until the week before Thanksgiving. During that time, members come to the Farm once a week to pick up their share of the harvest. Our U-pick gardens are open to members every day of the week and we host cooking classes, pizza nights, potlucks and a harvest barn dance. Sign up for our Market Newsletter.

One Local Summer 2016 – Week 10. Posted on 26 July 2016. Still playing catch-up, but here’s One Local Summer week 10! I think the blue cheese and chorizo actually worked out well with the cornbread base so it wasn’t a traditional pizza on top of cornbread. The quick jolt near the end of cooking under the broiler was really key to really bubble the cheese on top, and the crust ended up with a nice, crunchy bottom (not burnt, just nicely well-baked). The leftovers are even good! Tomatoes – Jack’s Farm.

One Local Summer 2016 – Week 11. Posted on 9 August 2016. Well, still playing catch-up and I really haven’t made much progress I guess! This week was a bit of a wash on the catching-up game, but at least I cooked one meal this week! I had found a pack of stir fry beef at the Wednesday farmers market at the Mill at Anselma and decided to run with it. So, Saturday, I grabbed peppers and mushrooms, found an onion in the fridge, and decided to give this recipe. Beef – Gauker Farms. Honey – Our Beehives.
