Thought For The Day

Sunday, December 30, 2007. December 31: A MATTER OF PERCEPTION. Today, it is a matter of perception, how each individual sees the situation. Anything may be right or wrong. You are your final moral law, how you subjectively feel about it is what matters. If you feel like you want to do something, just go ahead and do it. Have you noticed the increase in the number of murderers who are captured who are described as “showing no remorse”? That’s the result of living by perception. You can’t change soc...

Thought For The Day: December 20: WHAT GIFTS TO BRING?

http://www.charliechilton.blogspot.com/2007/12/december-20-what-gifts-to-bring.html

Tuesday, December 18, 2007. December 20: WHAT GIFTS TO BRING? What will you give Jesus for Christmas this year? It’s his birthday. But, you say, he already owns everything and doesn’t need anything. This is where your creativity must come in. You already have several people on your Christmas list that don’t need anything but you got creative and bought something for them anyway because it was the right thing to do. What gifts will you bring? 8220;What shame we feel, Dear Lord, when we think of how we lea...

Thought For The Day: December 18: IMMANUEL (GOD IS WITH US)

http://www.charliechilton.blogspot.com/2007/12/december-18-immanuel-god-is-with-us.html

Saturday, December 15, 2007. December 18: IMMANUEL (GOD IS WITH US). Nearly 800 years before Christ was born a Prophet spoke “a virgin shall bring forth a child and you will call his name Immanuel”. (Isaiah 7:14) And on the night of Jesus’ birth the angels and the shepherds shouted it out in praise. It was daring, incredible, inconceivable that God would slip into the world in this way! God is with us! God as a person is here! God as a presence is here! 8220;Merry Christmas” everyday! Thought For The Day.

Thought For The Day: December 17: WHAT CHRISTMAS MEANS TO ME

http://www.charliechilton.blogspot.com/2007/12/december-17-what-christmas-means-to-me.html

Saturday, December 15, 2007. December 17: WHAT CHRISTMAS MEANS TO ME. What’s in a name? CHRISTMAS MEANS CHRIST THE KING IS HERE. “Hark the Herald Angels sing, Glory to the newborn King”. “Joy to the world, the Lord has come.” The long-awaited King of Righteousness has arrived and all nations will be blessed through His reign. We tend to make them happy-happy songs. Even non-Christians who don’t have a clue as to the meaning sing them out with gusto. Rejoice with me today! Yes, we bow. Thought For The Day.

Thought For The Day: December 15: ENCHANTED BUT UNCHANGED

http://www.charliechilton.blogspot.com/2007/12/december-15-enchanted-but-unchanged.html

Friday, December 14, 2007. December 15: ENCHANTED BUT UNCHANGED. One of the great memories that Fay and I treasure goes back to 1961. It was the first time we took our children to visit the Christmas display at Thalhimer’s Department Store in Richmond, Virginia. It was so beautiful and un-real, breathtaking. Adults and kids alike were spell-bound by the beauty. It was truly a fantasy land! But if we are unchanged in heart, what good will this fascination with the baby Jesus do to us? Thought For The Day.

Thought For The Day: December 19: CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS

http://www.charliechilton.blogspot.com/2007/12/december-19-celebrating-christmas.html

Tuesday, December 18, 2007. December 19: CELEBRATING CHRISTMAS. You know it hasn’t always been this way in America, don’t you? Did you know that Alabama was the first state to recognize Christmas Day in 1890? Did you know that Oklahoma was the last state of the then 48 states to legalize Christmas Day in 1890? Have we made progress or not? Now, just suppose: suppose a law was passed in Congress saying that you could no longer celebrate Christmas the way you always have in America? What would you do?

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead...: Lights Out

http://pastorjimthompson.blogspot.com/2009/10/lights-out.html

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Wednesday, October 14, 2009. The other day I popped into to local library to check out a book. While I was there I logged onto the public computer to check my e-mail. Boom! Instant darkness. The monitors were blank, and all the patrons let out a collective, "Awww" along with a few whispered expletives. Their mother arrived (she had been in the restroom when the lights went out- oh, joy) and although she had been down a l...

It’s not our acceptance of the myth of redemptive violence, launching the Crusades and countless other imperialistic wars of conquest. Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead...: God always protects?

http://pastorjimthompson.blogspot.com/2009/06/god-always-protects.html

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Sunday, July 12, 2009. God always protects. In a previous post. About taking my then three-year daughter to the doctor, I speculated about what that divine protection could look like. That episode helps shed a little light on the subject, but makes it seem that God is always behind our pain, or that there is a divine/ultimate purpose for our pain. My reaction is, "No! There is plenty of painful evidence that he doesn't!

http://pastorjimthompson.blogspot.com/2009/05/god-always-protects.html

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Friday, May 1, 2009. The Bible claims that "God is love" and "Love always protects", therefore God always protects. The typical reaction is, "No! There is plenty of painful evidence that he doesn't! When my daughter was three years old I took her to the pediatrician for a MMR (Measles, Mumps and Rubella) vaccination. Was I protecting her? Had we not gone through these present day (and past) painful experiences we would n...

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead...: Making God's Day

http://pastorjimthompson.blogspot.com/2009/06/making-gods-day.html

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Tuesday, June 23, 2009. The Lord was grieved that he had made man on the earth, and his heart was filled with pain. I used to read the account of the great Flood in the Bible, the story of Noah and his family, and see an angry, fuming God. It's not there. God was grieved and sad. This is just one example that God has emotions and his heart is stirred by what we do. One of my favorite authors, John Fisher. That God would ...

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Thursday, October 15, 2009. The Spirit of God Dances. I love this piece by one of my favorite authors, John Fischer. At The Fischtank :). His favorite dancing places are those where the keepers of the dance don't want Him to go, like on smoky stages with microphones that smell of whiskey. The Spirit of God loves sinners and dances best where life spills out on the floor. Occasionally He dances on the clean, sweet-smellin...

http://pastorjimthompson.blogspot.com/2007/08/jimbos-gumbo_08.html

Foresights: looking forward to what lies ahead. Random musings on life and ministry. Wednesday, August 8, 2007. Gumbo, by definition, is “okra stew” but, ironically, there is no okra in my recipe because I only like fried okra. Feel free to add okra when you’re cooking. It’s your pot, throw in what you like. It should, however, include the Cajun Trinity: onion, bell pepper and celery.). 1 medium onion, chopped. 189; cup green onion, chopped. 1 bell pepper, chopped. 189; cup celery, chopped. 6 Remove from...
