Charmaine's Pastry Blog: July 2011

Monday, July 18, 2011. The bun in my oven. I've missed you. But I have a good reason why this blog has been dormant since December. My creative pursuits are temporarily on hiatus as I figure out this new creature in my life and cope with sleep deprivation which accompanies such mysterious beings. Hopefully, in the weeks and months to come, our lives will develop a new normal which includes diapers, playtime, sleeping, and artistic endeavours in my food, photography, and writing. Charmaine's Pastry Blog: May 2012

Thursday, May 31, 2012. The 10" x 15" sheet cake was topped with a contoured Elmo, made hairy by piped red buttercream. I was glad that Maddox's mom and dad did not want the entire cake to be Elmo, as that much red buttercream (and the red colouring in it) scares me a somewhat. Inside, the vanilla cake was layered with mango curd and mango mousseline. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. View my complete profile. My favorite food blogs. Charmaine's Pastry Blog: April 2012
http://charmainepastry.blogspot.com/2012_04_01_archive.html
Thursday, April 5, 2012. To distract myself, I am writing this overdue post about a hamster, a cat, and a puppy with floppy ears. These pets were specifically requested by Simone to decorate her birthday cake back in March. You may remember her previous birthday cakes, including this one. Her mom was aware of my time restrictions and so decided to order the actual cake from somewhere else. I like my fondant animals to be nice and fat, just like the plump ox, monkey and rat. In Love With Baking: July 2010
http://inlovewithbaking.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 28, 2010. One of the advantages to baking in Indonesia is the abundance of Kraft Processed Cheddar Cheese that was so difficult to find in Houston. In every grocery store that you go to here in Indonesia, you can be sure to find this Kraft cheese. Almost every child in Indonesia grow up with this cheese and so the taste is very comforting to many people here. I'm no exception. :). These cupcakes here are made with the same batter as my chiffon cake. Thank you sooooooo much to my family!

Monday, June 25, 2012. Cream Scones with PB&J. This weekend has been extremely wonderful. my bff is throwing a 61st birthday party for her dad and we've decided to make a dessert corner for the event. So for the whole day saturday and half of sunday, we spent making lots of goodies that made my house smells so delicious! Continuing with the baking momentum, I made some cream scones this morning. I've always enjoyed reading Joe Pastry's blog. Adapted from Joe Pastry. 280 g all-purpose flour. Preheat the o...
In Love With Baking: Mango Mousse Cups
http://inlovewithbaking.blogspot.com/2010/11/mango-mousse-cups.html
Friday, November 26, 2010. I used to study in Singapore about 10 years ago and over there I met some really wonderful friends that I hope to keep for life. Aside from friends, I also met a few "sisters" who lived with me and my family while in Singapore. One of them is Beatrix. When I was in Singapore, she was still in grade school. now, she's a lady! She's attending med school and is doing great! How is this connected to the mango mousse? 75g granulated sugar (my mango puree was already sweet).

Mum has been being a little jealous as I've not taken her out for meals and not spending more time with her as compared to Him :P. So yeah, bringing her for high tea was a good plan. At first she was so not keen as to saying it's pricey and all but I kept on insisting and she just smiled all the way. So comel :P. I love the sunshine as it makes me happy. I shall not explain f...

Taste: A Pastry Cook's Perspective: June 2008
http://apastrycooksperspective.blogspot.com/2008_06_01_archive.html
Taste: A Pastry Cook's Perspective. Friday, June 27, 2008. Today was going to be a normal day. Or so I had thought. My boss had bought a home brewing kit to make beer and had made it the day before. So I came in to work this morning with a ten gallon jug of homemade beer on my work station. The dark liquid churned as the top bubbled releasing the gas. I could see the yeast and the hops in the stormy stew. I told my boss: "No more home brewing for you.". Sunday, June 22, 2008. I was pleasantly suprised at...

Taste: A Pastry Cook's Perspective: The Last Day
http://apastrycooksperspective.blogspot.com/2009/04/last-day.html
Taste: A Pastry Cook's Perspective. Friday, April 3, 2009. Today is the last day of the Scharffen Berger Chocolate Factory. It is a sad day in so many ways. The tours have been long gone, leaving the tour room empty. No longer will the intoxicating smell of chocolate swarm the brick building. Production moves to Illinois where Scharrffen Berger products will still be made. But will it be the same? Labels: all things chocolate. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Myself 2.0: Busy Season is Upon Us!
http://myself2point0.blogspot.com/2010/11/busy-season-is-upon-us.html
Reinvention via pastry school. Thursday, November 18, 2010. Busy Season is Upon Us! I have been a bad blogger of late.but not without reason! We are getting busier and busier at the bakery and I am STILL unpacking/organizing from the cross country move. It's been challenging to try to make it all work and yet have a little time to unwind and explore. Whew! I am going to try to combine the last few weeks at the bakery instead of making separate entries for all of the hustle bustle that has been happening.

Chef Emily's gorgeous cakes in the windows. Some of the display cases getting stocked up- something to tempt every pallate!
