Clayton Edward Kershaw v. Cardinals 4/16/11 | On the Screws

Pitch sequences and sarcasm. Clayton Edward Kershaw v. Cardinals 4/16/11. Posted by Will Rodeffer. April 22, 2011. Not a whole lot of strikes in this one, even with the ridiculous amount of foul balls. Kershaw wasn’t helped much by the strike zone, Joe West took away several borderline calls in the low-away zone in crucial situations (such as the Allen Craig HR). 42 IP, 6 H, 5 R (5 ER), 5 BB, 5 K. Clayton’s slider was varyingly slurvy, only distinguishable from the curve by velocity. 19 FB/4 OFF/1 BRK.

Pitch sequences and sarcasm. Joseph Matthew Blanton v. Mets 4/6/11. Posted by Will Rodeffer. April 10, 2011. 41 IP, 10 H, 7 R (7 ER), 2 BB, 6 K. Blanton’s slider was thrown mostly after sinkers, sometimes even sandwiched between two sinkers. Of his 13 changeups thrown, 6 occurred in pairs. The changeup was sketchy, often drifting too far left. In eight 1-0 counts, Blanton went offspeed five times (four of which were speed changes). Pitch Type % (with Strike %). Pitch sequences and sarcasm. Vance Richard Worley v. Mets 4/29/11. Posted by Will Rodeffer. May 1, 2011. A promising 2011 debut for RHP Vance Worley. He mixed a solid fastball/change combo with an okay slider to blank the rival Mets for six strong innings. A generous outside plate from Gary Cederstrom greatly assisted the young pitcher the first time through the New York lineup. 60 IP, 2 H, 0 R (0 ER), 4 BB, 5 K. Left-handed batters were started off with changeups six times. Pitch Type % (with Strike %).

Pitch sequences and sarcasm. Brandon Patrick McCarthy v. Rangers 5/2/11. Posted by Will Rodeffer. May 6, 2011. Brandon McCarthy faced his old club (and new divisional rival) for the first time and went six strong, also off the hook for the 4 runs that the Rangers scored. The two seam fastball was extremely useful and stymied the Ranger batters with a mixed in slider. 60 IP, 6 H, 4 R (0 ER), 2 BB, 4 K. Of eight swing-and-miss strikes, seven were off fastballs (with Moreland as the only miss on the slider).

All five curve balls thrown were on 0-0 counts. 1-2 is the only count Kuroda was averse to using the sinker (Zito saw the only one in the zone). Only one batter drew a 3 ball count (Belt). Kuroda struck him out. The Splitter was really ineffective tonight. Pitch Type % (with Strike %). 17 FB/6 OFF/5 BRK. 6 FB/0 OFF/0 BRK. 1 FB/1 OFF/0 BRK. 10 FB/6 OFF/0 BRK. 3) SI...
