Location – Hours. The Chemainus Health Care Foundation is a charitable, non-profit society, formed in 1988. The board has nine members and meets 5 times a year. Committee meetings are called as needed, as are special meetings. The AGM is in May and new members are always welcome. There is no fee, but willing volunteers are appreciated. The Foundation annually provides two scholarships of $1500 each and 2 bursaries of $1500 each for students entering a health related field.

Location – Hours. A History of Chemainus Health Care 1900 – 2011. The excellent deep-water inlet and the adjacent high quality timber made Chemainus a prime location for a sawmill. In the early years, most of the people who worked here were transients who moved to wherever work was available, in mining, construction (E&N) or the forest industry. Lumber markets were unpredictable, as export markets had not been established with any certainty, so the early sawmills had many curtailments. In its earliest da...

Location – Hours. Is owned and operated by the Vancouver Island Health Authority. Chemainus Health Care Centre. Residents Room in the Health Centre. There are 73 beds dedicated to complex care; people who can no longer look after themselves and the care too difficult for a caregiver at home. Dementia is often a factor. Is a diagnostic and treatment centre. There is a lab and X-ray on site. All minor trauma can be treated. The local doctors are on call from 7:30am – 10:30pm. There is always an RN on site.

The Foundation provides four yearly awards to high school grads at Chemainus High School, so this new award expands their ability to assist people living locally to go forward with their work goals.
