Jack Straw) is on Facebook, liberal trendy that he is (what do you mean, he's just the oldest swinger in town? I suspect that Jack has been relying on his beautiful colleague Harriet for computing security tips. Yes,. Stephen's Computing Blog: November 2007
http://stevescomputingblog.blogspot.com/2007_11_01_archive.html
Monday, 5 November 2007. That video at last. I bought my system from City Ink Express. The R285 wasn't listed on their site when I ordered. Once the new printer arrived a couple of days later and I got the replacement cartridge, I had the system re-installed in a matter of minutes. And when I powered up, full recognition of the. Cartridges, so I was ready to go. After a couple of prints I knew it all worked well. And the print quality is really excellent (see my last post. For more on that). You'll proba...

Stephen's Computing Blog: December 2008

Friday, 19 December 2008. Platte and privacy: user accounts and bills. Why did your software display your bill on my computer after I had terminated my membership, owing you nothing? And why did it do so across all the user accounts on a shared computer? B) When you install the software it installs across all user accounts on the pc. This is because it is the pc owner that is responsible for the account. Actually there's a bigger question - why didn't it do the uninstall at the same time? It's the (b) pa...

Stephen's Computing Blog: April 2008
http://stevescomputingblog.blogspot.com/2008_04_01_archive.html
Friday, 4 April 2008. U3 - the software loaded USB sticks that enable you to take your desktop (and all your files, even some of your programs) with you and run them on any PC is terrific as far as I'm concerned. I've got the Sandisk Titanium 4GB hardware, but even allowing for the heavy compression U3 uses, it is not possible to get. On it So I was delighted to see that there was an 8GB version coming out. I found it showing as being in stock on a UK site called MyMemory. I've cancelled my card; a pain ...

Wednesday, 7 November 2012. Underhand moderation in The Guardian tech section. I'm an occasional contributor to the BTL comment in the Guardian. Dan Crow's " We've passed peak Apple: it's all downhill from here. Caught my eye this morning and I added one of the first comments (the article had attracted no comment at the time). My comment posted fourth, and quickly drew a couple of recommends. OK so these are the moderated posts. First:. The story of Apple Incorporated is far from over. It is the most...

Stephen's Computing Blog: May 2008
http://stevescomputingblog.blogspot.com/2008_05_01_archive.html
Monday, 5 May 2008. If there's a downside, it's that processor use is up somewhat (noticeable on an elderly PC like my own) not least because it does far deeper scans of executable files before you even attempt to open them. This last may of course be a good thing but in the short term it's a pain; I tend to save my downloaded executables in case I need them again, and it's working it's way through them all.
