Tuesday, July 31, 2012. Ten of my favorite pieces, not in any particular order. 1 "A Bird's Nest". The title refers to the back of the quilt. When free motion quilting, if you don't carefully tie off your beginning thread, it knots up on the back. This is called a bird's nest. The bird is painted and quilted seperately from the quilt, then sewn on, but floats nicely above the quilt background. This alligator gets up close and personal. I would hate to really be that close. 5 "Road 9, Crandall Pasture".

There were as many as 10 hummingbirds, though the best I got in one photo, one feeder, was 3. Many of them live in the cedar trees and the 2-story camellia bush, in the background of this photo. Thanks to a comment/ request, here are some tips about making the Mile-A-Minute quilt in the version I do:. 1 Start with a strip and sew scraps down it's length. Press open. 2 Cut the strip scraps into pieces, then randomly. Sew those down the length of another strip. Do not keep them in any order. Rotate them around.
