Chemistry and Art: Synthetic dyes
http://chemistryart.blogspot.com/2009/05/all-dyes-were-natural-dyes-until-1856_05.html
Tuesday, May 5, 2009. All dyes were natural dyes until 1856. Englishman William Henry Perkin, 18, was trying to make quinine from coal tar. By serendipity he made a purple goo - the first basic (cationic/aniline) dye called Mauve. His whole family jumped into the venture and they started the first synthetic dye factory in 1857. Perkin was later knighted for his efforts. . Congo red was invented in 1884. It was the first direct dye. It is usually applied with hot water. Immersion and sodium chloride.

to live is to fly: June 2009
http://annyinmorocco.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
To live is to fly. The quest for the perfect couscous. Sunday, June 21, 2009. Taking a moment for. The amazing ability of rural taxi drivers to back long distances at great speeds down long earthen alleyways without ever scraping against the wall. How whitewashed earthen walls of the homes here look blue in the early twilight. The usage of "bladi" and "rumi" to indicate (very generally) local and foreign products or ways of doing things. My latest favorite smoothie. Generous spoonful or two of honey.

Chemistry Art of Science. All Fact About Chemistry. Periodic Table and Chemical Bonding. August 19, 2011. 1 The discovery of a large number of elements and the study of their properties revealed between some certain similarities. This prompted chemists to search for a classification of the elements not only to facilitate their knowledge and description, but more importantly, for research leading to new advances in our understanding of matter. Mendelejeff early work dating from 1860 and 1869 findings were...
