This blog brings together my interests in marine plastic pollution, art, and environmental activism. Here I explore the impact plastic has on ecosystems and marine life, how we contribute to the problem and how we can contribute to the solution. It also is a repository for artistic inspiration; the beauty of marine life and work of other artists, while being a place to connect with like minded people on environmental issues.

Plastic was collected from local beaches over a six moth period. This material is then used in this installation work that comments on food chain toxicity caused from marine plastic pollution. The work was then installed at the beach where materials were originally found. Video, object, shadow and sound are combined to fill the exhibition space. Objects made from reclaimed and virgin plastics are positioned to maximise shadows from two projections playing simultaneously.

My research revolves around marine plastic pollution, and how our culture of consumerism impacts on natural environments. This is a diary of work done for the installation “Currumbin Gold”. I collected plastic debris from Palm Beach and Currumbin, which I cleaned, cataloged and sorted before using it to create a sculpture for installation on the beach. This is a record of my process. I take a large bin.sometimes I find items that won’t fit – boogie boards/tarps. Materials are then stored together – not sorted at this stage. Palm Beach – Estuary near the pirate ship.
