John and two of his brothers enlisted to fight in WWII. Two brothers returned safely, but John, an Air Force pilot, died in September, 1944, while flying a P51 solo over Schladen, Germany. John was returning from a bombing raid over Magdeburg. A German farm woman rescued his dog tags and personal effects at great personal risk.
