Meaningless musing on many mundane matters. Wednesday, January 25, 2012. Time to paint the front room, after 7 years of having an open fire distribute smoke about the place. Seemed like a good idea at the time anyway, but it's taking a lonnnng time. First, empty the junk from the room, do all the prep and paint the ceiling. Then the undercoat and pointing. We had a bit of an adventure last week during school holidays. We flew to Frankfurt on the Saturday, where it was a very sunny -11C at 10am when we landed. After spending the weekend sight-seeing and wearing all the clothes in our suitcase in one go we got the train to a small town called Pfungstadt. Thursday, February 09, 2012.

We were at an Irish WIldlife Trust open day yesterday and Jim Wilson estimated there to be a half a million in the flock, though I don't know how you could possibly count them. It's one of Nigella's cakes, so there's no scrimping on the good calories. It's got four different kinds of chocolate in it, plus sour cream, but I found a way to improve on it - serve with heated berries and home made chocolate chip ice cream. Six-choc cake! We've taken lots of photos, and in keeping with tradition here are some of the best foodie ones. Fresh off the plane we had a fantastic Flat White at Brona's cafe, Federal Diner. Outdoor winter wines at Mt Difficulty. Winery, Central Atago. It's a great winery with a fabulous views. They do lunches with some outdoor tables with lovely warm blankets.
