Chez Sullivan: The end of an era
http://chezsullivan.blogspot.com/2015/04/the-end-of-era.html
Adventures in Retirement by Mark and Ellen - - Another half year in Provence. Monday, April 6, 2015. The end of an era. After seven years of being part of Vaison’s foot traffic, we took the plunge and bought a used car. Our newer-than-our-Lansing-car is a 2010 Peugeot 207, diesel engine, manual transmission. While it has been seven years that we have not owned a car in. We had started our search before going to. We had stopped at the Peugeot dealer in Vaison and told the manager what we were looking for&...

Adventures in Retirement by Mark and Ellen - - Another half year in Provence. Monday, February 23, 2009. I must confess that every time I hear about wines from Chateauneuf du Pape, I think about the a Cotes du Rhone Ventoux bottled in France and and soldsold in the US. tThe egg-shaped label for which shows a cat (chat) sitting on an egg (oeuf) – “Chat en oeuf.” Of course, I also still think of “The Lone Ranger” every time I hear the William Tell Overture.). He has so much to do…”. Posted by The Sullivans.

Adventures in Retirement by Mark and Ellen - - Another half year in Provence. Tuesday, March 17, 2009. Child Care à la crèche. The steps were: an informal phone call offering to volunteer followed by a formal letter in which I had to specify my intentions followed by my resume in English and French followed by my certificate of insurance followed by my criminal history clearance (THANKS Jim! At “circle time” yesterday, another lead teacher asked me to teach the kids a word game in English....Yesterday...
Chez Sullivan: Greetings and Salutations
http://chezsullivan.blogspot.com/2015/02/greetings-and-salutations.html
Adventures in Retirement by Mark and Ellen - - Another half year in Provence. Saturday, February 7, 2015. I am struck by the number of ways the French greet each other and the equally numerous ways in which they offer departing words. Good) figures in many of the phrases. There are the usual expressions that we have heard:. Hello – not to be confused with ‘ bonne journée. Which is more closely aligned with our ‘have a nice day’. One would say for instance, ‘bonjour. When leaving the shop.). February 8, 2...

Our House in Provence. Tuesday, June 30, 2015. Tuesday morning at the market in Vaison-la-Romaine. Tuesday mornings you will find us at the weekly outdoor market in the center of Vaison-la-Romaine. A short (6 mile) drive from Sablet along a winding road and across the Ouvèze River. The town is divided by the River into two parts; on the right bank is the ancient Roman colony and modern town and on the left bank is the Medieval town with castle ruins at the highest point which you can see from far away.

Our House in Provence. Saturday, April 5, 2014. A Visit to the Truffle Market in Richerenches, Headquarters of the Knights Templars. Almost as soon as we opened Bistro Des Copains. So when we returned to Sablet at the end of February, I decided that we would go to the truffle market in Richerenches the first Saturday we were there. Richerenches. Is a small walled village, about 26 km from Sablet, once the Commanderie des Templiers (the fortified headquarters of the Knights Templars). Besides the famous t...

Our House in Provence. Saturday, May 10, 2014. Le Tourne au Verre Restaurant, Cairanne. We arrived in Sablet as winter's cold and rain gave way to clear skies and warm weather heralding the arrival of spring in Provence. Every time a local would say how lucky we were with the weather, I would say "we brought the weather from California.". Farm near Le Barroux but never visited the village. This was our plan for the first Monday. But first there was déjeuner (lunch) to attend to. Le Tourne au Verre is a r...

Our House in Provence. Friday, June 6, 2014. D Day, Omaha Beach, Normandy France. Omaha Beach, Normandy France. Hitler had placed German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel in command of German forces and of developing fortifications along the Atlantic Wall in anticipation of an Allied invasion. Rommel believed that the Normandy coast could be a possible landing point for the invasion, so he ordered the construction of extensive defensive works along that shore. Omaha Beach, Normandy France. Our House in Provence. Saturday, January 24, 2015. Oppède-le-Vieux, a peaceful escape in the Luberon. Just before we leave for a séjour in Sablet, we start to plan our time so we can see and experience what we think are the best parts of our beautiful corner of Provence. Its hard to whittle down our list of places we want to go to make everything fit let alone get to new places where we have not been before. When we got to Oppède-le-Vieux, we had to leave our car in the parking lot at the base of the vil...
Our House in Provence: A visit to the historical sights in Avignon and a lovely lunch at La Fourchette
http://sablethouse.blogspot.com/2015/08/a-visit-to-historical-sights-in-avignon.html
Our House in Provence. Sunday, August 9, 2015. A visit to the historical sights in Avignon and a lovely lunch at La Fourchette. My first memory of Avignon is trying to get from the TGV station south of town on the road leading to the A7 in Le Pontet to go to Sablet. Since that day, we have returned to Avignon many times to visit the town's many historical sites, shopping and dining. It is always one of the places we take all our guests. Avignon is well known for its Festival d'Avignon, the annual festiva...

Our House in Provence. Sunday, February 22, 2015. Roussillon, A Most Beautiful Village in the Luberon. Friends and others headed to Provence often ask where they should go during their once in a life time seven day visit to Provence. This is a hard question as most visitors have only 6 days since they usually arrive on Saturday afternoon and depart the following Saturday morning; there are so many wonderful things to see. We usually suggest visitors include a trip to the vibrant red-ocher colored town of...

We decided to celebrate Valentine’s Day by going out for dinner. We went to a new restaurant in the middle of town that is quickly becoming a favorite of ours: Entre Amis. Epic historical paintings by Surette. Canada's historian-in-art, is remembered for his masterly depictions of Acadian, marine, pastoral and historical subjects.
