Earle Arkansas Tornado | Oklahoma Storm Chaser
http://www.oklahomachaser.com/chases/20080502
Skip to main content. May 2, 2008. Ron Jarrell, Brett Adair. Hail, Severe Wind, Tornado, Wall Cloud. Chad Rust and I got an earlier than anticipated start, leaving Lansing around 5:30 am. We headed south on I-69 to Indianapolis, then took I-70 west to Effingham. Once we crossed into Illinois, it appeared that we might be wasting gas. I contemplated going to the north target near Davenport, IA as I didn't think we'd be able to get south fast enough to meet the cells in Arkansas. This storm was currently p...

JR Hehnly, Steve Miller, Brandon Sullivan, Craig Maire, Mike Nelson, Connor McCrory, Cory Watkins. Funnel Cloud, Good Structure, Hail, Tornado, Wall Cloud. Eventually the Frederick storm, what would become "storm of the day", became the clear winner and we started driving as fast as we could towards that storm. Unfortunately the wet red dirt roads were tough to drive on. We got out to 183 and headed n...

Skip to main content. Hodgeman County, KS Supercell Structure. June 3, 2015. Good Structure, Wall Cloud. After expecting to be done chasing for awhile, I got a 'hail mary' given to me from work in the form of a broken radar truck computer in Hays, KS on the PECAN project. After trying to troubleshoot over email, it was decided I would make the trip to Hays from Norman to fix the computer on the 2nd. I spent most of the morning and afternoon working on the radar truck and extracting an image in case we ne...

Skip to main content. Tornado Outbreak in Oklahoma. May 10, 2010. Shane Adams, Mickey Ptak. Funnel Cloud, Hail, Severe Wind, Tornado, Wall Cloud. Monday May 10th was a day most storm chasers had seen quite a bit of potential in for quite a few days leading up to the event. Model run-to-run consistency had been very good in painting a grim picture for Oklahoma. Eric and I decided to follow, ending up in a convoy up US 60 in an intercept route for this storm. We got to US 64 then headed west to Nash...
Surprise along the Red River | Oklahoma Storm Chaser

Skip to main content. Surprise along the Red River. April 20, 2014. David Drummond, Matt Phelps, Mike Scantlin. Good Structure, Hail, Wall Cloud. This was a surprise day for me where I encountered some of the best structure I have ever seen. Scott Peake and I chased and both of us had very little confidence in the day. I kept thinking the whole way out "Why are you chasing today? Nonetheless, Scott and I headed down I-44 to US-62 and went through Altus and Hollis. The storm was luckily moving very slow (...

Skip to main content. Medford, OK/Grant County Tornadoes. April 30, 2012. After driving all night the previous night, I arrived home in Norman about 3 am Monday April 30th and had to work later on in the morning. I caught about 5 hours sleep before getting up and going to work and working until 5:05pm. Cory and I got the truck back together and Rain-X'ed the windshield before looking at visible satellite again and radar. The storms in SW Kansas had begun to light up and I knew I'd never get to them i...

Skip to main content. South Central Nebraska Tornadoes. June 20, 2011. Scott Bennett, Steve Polley, Eric Treece, Bob Fritchie, Jesse Risley. Funnel Cloud, Hail, Tornado, Wall Cloud. JR Hehnly and I woke up dead center in the target area in York, NE on Monday morning. We slept in as we knew it'd be a long drive home after the chase Monday evening. Shortly after that, the main tornado formed and dropped to our south. We were in a perfect position to let it mature and come towards us. It ended up pa...We st...
Incredible Shelf Cloud near Grand Haven, MI | Oklahoma Storm Chaser

Skip to main content. Incredible Shelf Cloud near Grand Haven, MI. July 18, 2010. LB LaForce, Bob Hartig, Kurt Hulst, Nick Nolte. Sunday July 18th looked like a decent chase day in Lower Michigan. I wasn't super impressed with the setup. It had quite a bit of CAPE, as depicted by the NAM and the RUC. The NAM was showing upwards of 3800 on the 00Z run, however scaled back during the 12Z run, showing still around 2750-3000 in a Lansing to Grand Rapids and southwest line. The shelf cloud came ashore from La...
