Geltsdale Wildlife Warrior: January 2016

http://www.gwwblog.com/2016_01_01_archive.html

Sunday, 31 January 2016. The Green Halo of the North. A wonderful 'Mull Stargazing Tour' last night as we admired and photographed the aurora borealis under a strong moon, lighting up the surrounding wildscapes. The strong lunar light made it easier to pick out the main constellations on show and we watched Jupiter rise to the east later on in the night. Wildlife sightings during the tour were 3 Barn Owls, Short-eared Owl, Tawny Owl, 3 Mountain Hares and 12 Woodcock. Wednesday, 27 January 2016. What a be...

Geltsdale Wildlife Warrior: August 2015

http://www.gwwblog.com/2015_08_01_archive.html

Wednesday, 19 August 2015. Mull Hen Harrier Day.With Harriers! One of my roles for Hen Harrier Day was to provide hour long tours in search of the wonderful raptors throughout the day. In our location here on Mull we are fortunate to have an increased chance of seeing the birds on short tours due to the lack of criminal activity and destruction of the iconic species. Prizes to raise money on the day. HH Day Cake made by Sarah Padders! Owl not forget you! Rain does not stop play. Good proper Scottish rain...

Wednesday, 31 August 2016. Mull Hen Harrier Day 2016. A few photos from the 2016 Mull Hen Harrier Day at Craignure Bunkhouse. Despite the weather people braved it and those who went off with. To spot harriers were all successful! We raised around £325 this year which adds to our pot for a satellite tag. Thanks to everyone who came along and those who helped or supported on the day! Geltsdale Wildlife Warrior: November 2015

http://www.gwwblog.com/2015_11_01_archive.html

Tuesday, 17 November 2015. An Afternoon with Nature. A nice spell of weather on Saturday 7th November so Rachel, Stuart and I headed out round the north side of Mull to check on a Raven roost which has displayed some fascinating. At the head of loch Cuin on low water we had 4 Greenshanks and 4 Snipe along with a solitary Redshank. We pulled over and scoped the bird, enjoying beautiful views, lit up in the Hebridean sunshine. It took to the wing and came even closer before travelling NW with urgency.

Monday, 26 January 2015. Starling roost viewing from Redkirk. Wonderful shapes, mother nature is the best artist in the world by a country mile! Some birds dropped into roost v close by. Whens the next flight? On the 20th Jan myself and Dad called into Carlisle airport to see the black redstart which was been there for around two months. Nice views of the bird and a new species for me. Black redstart at Carlisle airport. We saw some territorial dispute with birds interacting and talon grappling. Late...

Geltsdale Wildlife Warrior: June 2015

http://www.gwwblog.com/2015_06_01_archive.html

Friday, 5 June 2015. Here are some of my wildlife encounters from the month. I watched a male Wood Warbler dancing around a beech tree, performing its wonderful song from every different branch it could. Who needs to go to Papa New Guinea and see birds of paradise when we have them right here! While crewing on a couple of Sea Life Surveys excursions we encountered some splinter groups of common dolphins performing their usual exuberance! Coll of the Eagle! Second year Glaucous Gull in Tobermory harbour.
