From Under My Cowboy Hat. Day To Day Observations of a Cowboy Poet. View my complete profile. Wednesday, July 18, 2012. Crabgrass is the enemy we fight the most. The roots of this weed spread out and encompass the roots of other plants and flowers, strangling them in the process. Removing this spidery foe can be tiresome business. These weeds and a few others were robbing the plants of precious water. Purging was a must. If we are humble and bear up under the strain gracefully, it humbles and feeds the h...

Of a Ranchers life. KL Dennie June 2012. Me and Grandson Karter after a day of hot work. Monday, June 4, 2012. The Final Round Up. He leaned forward on his saddle. Resting his arm on the horn. And gazed at the land below. The sun was setting orange in the western sky. And in the east, the full moon. Barns and a home,.

From Under My Cowboy Hat. Day To Day Observations of a Cowboy Poet. View my complete profile. Thursday, July 5, 2012. The Chicken Ranch is parched. Dry, dusty, thirsty, and faded. The extremely dry conditions in the. Sadly, gentle all night soakers just aren’t happening this year. Too many times the pop up storms that come are fast, furious downpours that hit the concrete-hard soil and then just run off to the streams and ditches. Such rain puts some much needed water in dry rivers, but litt...Thankfully,...
From Under My Cowboy Hat: Dawns Early Light

From Under My Cowboy Hat. Day To Day Observations of a Cowboy Poet. View my complete profile. Tuesday, August 11, 2015. Another dawn, another day of life; it is the peaceful birth of an August summer day here at the Chicken Ranch. The sun rises, and hope rises with it. Hope of another day of health, of productivity, and growth in my spirit. Like a smoky blanket, a layer of fog hovers just over the meadows around us. Floating gently, it is as if the misty apparition is tethered there by the heads of t...

From Under My Cowboy Hat. Day To Day Observations of a Cowboy Poet. View my complete profile. Monday, August 3, 2015. It seems forlorn, just hanging there. With only the breeze to cause it’s sway. Oh how it rocketed thru the air. Back in my children’s day. The earth beneath once was trodden bare. By their happy dancing feet. Now the twisted rope needs repair. And moss grows on the seat. Time does move us ever on,. And leaves behind a thing. A joy that was has come and gone. KL Dennie July 2006. All the b...

Life at Main & Sunny Lane: December 2012
http://ebkkk.blogspot.com/2012_12_01_archive.html
Life at Main and Sunny Lane. Monday, December 31, 2012. Without discussing just how many nerves have been frayed, this project is done. Brenda and I have agreed (for different reasons) we are done remodeling. :). Here is how it looks. Links to this post. Thursday, December 27, 2012. It's time for another project. Its door remained closed and has been totally out of commission. The only thing you would see if you opened the door would have been debris. Shower surround is in place and drywall will soon be ...
Life at Main & Sunny Lane: To Invent...
http://ebkkk.blogspot.com/2014/05/to-invent.html
Life at Main and Sunny Lane. Saturday, May 17, 2014. Thomas Edison said it like this, "To invent, you need a good imagination and a pile of junk.". My Dad has both. Two characteristics of the collection? Function over Form" and "You don't have to paint". Need to haul water to the garden. Fortunately Dad had an axle, angle iron and a tank in the scrap pile. Had to purchase the hose. Need to haul wood or animals I suppose. Or even a bathtub perhaps. Pontoons ready for the boat? Lots of leaves in the yard?
Life at Main & Sunny Lane: February 2014
http://ebkkk.blogspot.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
Life at Main and Sunny Lane. Thursday, February 20, 2014. Snow in the amount we've had this winter is rare. As of today, this year ranks 3rd on the all time list for most snow in one winter in Peoria's recorded history. About 5 inches more first place! Piles from shoveling sidewalk and patio. Links to this post. Monday, February 3, 2014. 4th Annual Wild Game Dinner. Big toms and numerous hens just down from the roost and grabbing some quick grub before heading off in various directions for the day. T...

Life at Main & Sunny Lane: From inside the cab
http://ebkkk.blogspot.com/2014/05/spent-some-time-in-field-this-spring.html
Life at Main and Sunny Lane. Saturday, May 17, 2014. From inside the cab. Spent some time in the field this spring preparing fields for planting. This is what I saw if I was looking ahead. Or if looking over the right shoulder. And when looking over the left shoulder. And in the cab. At 8 mph and a 42 foot field cultivator, about 30 acres per hour can be tilled. Tilling 160 acres means driving about 50 miles. Each acres is tilled with a little over 1/2 gallon of diesel fuel. Pass on the LEFT!

Life at Main and Sunny Lane. Sunday, August 24, 2014. Over the 20 plus years we've lived here our landscaping has been a varied and ever changing lot of annuals, perennials, shrubs that sometimes looked marginally good and sometimes not-so-good. Last year we decided to engage the services of a landscape architect. This has worked out well. Here are a number of photos taken over the past year. May 2013. South side of house. Ready to start planting. Digging out the barberry. The boxwoods stay. A Morning Wi...

Life at Main & Sunny Lane: January 2014
http://ebkkk.blogspot.com/2014_01_01_archive.html
Life at Main and Sunny Lane. Thursday, January 30, 2014. The last couple winters were something like 2 months of additional fall and a month of "never knew spring to start this early." This year winter has been winter. Oh, we could use more snow but at least what we've gotten has generally stayed around for a while. I have no photos from Friday night. But thanks to Bruce, I have these from Saturday AM to share. First, from the fire looking South. We found a downed tree and cut it up for firewood. Doug an...

Life at Main and Sunny Lane. Sunday, June 16, 2013. To OKC for a graduation. We headed to Oklahoma City in May for Kalynn's graduation from the University of Oklahoma. The degree as a registered dental hygienist complete and a job waiting for her was cause for celebration! So what better way to start than with a troupe of bagpipers! The four years of hard work recognized. Yep, still grinning. So were we! I like that party hat! Links to this post. Saturday, June 15, 2013. Links to this post. Life at Main ...
