On Friday, October 17, at sunrise, on a beach in Florida, my home state, I proposed to Shira Frankel. She said yes (after weeks of telling me whenever we talked about marriage, "I haven't said yes yet.") . For those who want to quench their curiousity, pictures can be found on onlysimchas. The rantings and ravings of Bryan Kinzbrunner. Tuesday, November 25, 2003. In a conversation regarding Tomar Devorah. By Rabbi Moses Cordovero, we came across a very disturbing passage regarding a method for removing pride:. For those used to Western ways of thinking, the idea of self-degradation seems quite dangerous. It might lead to things as extreme as self-mutilation or even suicide. How do we, as contemporary Jews, view a passage like this? Someone suggested that the passage, being written in quest...

The rantings and ravings of Bryan Kinzbrunner. Tuesday, September 30, 2003. Tonight, during a discussion about spirituality. the following issue was raised. Is it legitimate to begin a path of spiritual growth for purely selfish, narcissistic reasons? Should we teach people to merely submit themselves to the Divine right away? Our goal in life should be to continuously strive to improve ourselves and our world through the best means possible within the confines of society, religion and community.

The rantings and ravings of Bryan Kinzbrunner. Tuesday, May 25, 2004. I know it is only Tuesday, but here is a Dvar Torah for this week's Parasha, Nasso. I do think that the idea presented might be something to contemplate on Shavuot as well. At first glance, this explanation seems a bit hard to grasp. Why would one create absolute distance from something as a result of seeing a person punished the crime he/she committed? However, I am still left wondering the need to go to this extreme. I understand...

The rantings and ravings of Bryan Kinzbrunner. Wednesday, August 20, 2003. One of the most fascinating Jewish ethical books is R. Moses Cordovero's. I would like to quote for you one paragrah from this work today - This has to do with the issue of forgiveness. G-d forgives a person without the use of an emissary. "A person should behave in exactly the same way. He should certainly not say, 'Why should I be the one to rectify so-and-so's sins or perversions? Posted by Bryan at 8:42 PM. Laws of Shabbat 18.
