Intervention

About 350 children 18 or younger come to CARES each year. For comprehensive medical exams and objective interviews to determine if abuse has occurred. Most are referred through the Oregon Department of Human Services' Child Welfare office or law enforcement. Some are brought directly by concerned family members. Most live in Klamath and Lake Counties in Oregon. CARES strives to prevent the repeated abuse of children. CARES' medical professionals give each young person a comprehensive physical examination.
Healing
http://www.klcares.org/healing
CARES keeps caring by helping children and families begin to heal. CARES' healing services continue after the medical assessment is complete. Before leaving our facility, children and their parents or guardians meet with the child and family advocate. She evaluates their needs and refers them to counseling, medical/dental care, food, clothing, transportation, gas, day care, housing - a wide range of community resources. Know the signs, symptoms and how to report.
Volunteers
http://www.klcares.org/about/volunteers
CARES could not protect and serve approximately 350 children a year without the help of volunteers! If you might like to volunteer some time to help, here are a few suggestions. Let us know your talents, interests and availability by calling Volunteer Coordinator Paula Martin, 541-274-6289. Help plan our annual event in April during Child Abuse Prevention Month, our fall luncheon, assist with public education events, and/or serve on Board committees such as Fundraising or Advocacy.
