Paleography | ChineseQuest

https://chinesequest.wordpress.com/2012/02/24/paleography

Asymp; 2 Comments. I met a guy last week that does research in early Chinese excavated texts. You know, really old stuff. Just when I though I had figured out what I wanted to do in grad school, this guy comes along and screws it all up. But then this guy comes along who’s working on his PhD, and he’s doing this research that’s a ridiculous kind of awesome. Rewriting Early Chinese Texts. More earnestly when I had them in my hands. But there will be time for that later. Larr; Previous post. You are commen...

Outlier Linguistic Solutions | ChineseQuest

https://chinesequest.wordpress.com/2014/08/14/outlier-linguistic-solutions

Asymp; 6 Comments. Once again, I’ve been inactive here for a while. I moved to Tokyo two weeks ago and I’m hard at work learning Japanese and trying to maintain or improve my Chinese (I’ll be posting later on how I’m doing that while in Japan, I promise). But I have another, very exciting piece of news to announce. Instead of Qing history. He helped me through the process of applying for the MA program. And Asking the experts: How to learn Chinese grammar. So I joined them. We’re called Outlier...So that...

Asymp; 8 Comments. Oh yeah, I worked smart too. SRS, basing my study on the ICLP program, reading as much as I could about how other people have successfully learned languages, etc. But no matter how smart you work, you still have to work. Last month the hard work and tenacity finally paid off. After 1 year and 8 months in Taiwan, I got a job as a translator. Chinese has gone from being a hobby that I hoped would be useful one day to now being a marketable skill. Now is when the real learning can begin.

MMasquel Travelog: Le premier verre est aussi amer que la vie

http://parkunxia335.blogspot.com/2012/12/le-premier-verre-est-aussi-doux-que-la.html

Thursday, December 6, 2012. Le premier verre est aussi amer que la vie. So much for originality. I decided to do a presentation on France. I talked about Lyon, about the roses in my grandmother's garden, and about food. I brought some crepes to share with them, which worked miracles in getting their attention. Le premier verre est aussi. Que la vie,. Le deuxième est aussi fort que l'amour,. Le troisième est aussi. The first glass is as bitter as life,. The second glass is as strong as love,. MMasquel Travelog: April 2011

http://parkunxia335.blogspot.com/2011_04_01_archive.html

Friday, April 29, 2011. There are many reasons to go to Chengdu. And this is one of them:. Old People Dancing in Chengdu. Wednesday, April 27, 2011. A Traditional Chinese Wedding. About two days after we got back from the Silk Road Trip, we went to a wedding. The qipao's were a little hard to walk around / do anything in, but I managed. Crystal's was way tighter than mine, I don't know how she could even move. The bride (Jiao) was very beautiful her traditional dress. Then, the groom went to the bride's ...

MMasquel Travelog: June 2011

http://parkunxia335.blogspot.com/2011_06_01_archive.html

Thursday, June 30, 2011. There's a floor made of glass there and you can walk all the way around the tower on it. One of the others and I actually laid down on it, looking downward, which gives you the sensation of falling.kind of scary. However, I don't feel like I'm in China yet, which is a bit like how I felt at the beginning of the Xi'an semester while in Beijing. But whatever. I'll get to Mianyang soon! Tuesday, June 28, 2011. http://parkunxia335.blogspot.com/2012_08_01_archive.html

Friday, August 31, 2012. First Day of School. Okay, technically, today is the second day. Yesterday was my first day at Guting. But yesterday I didn't get to teach (I mostly sat at my desk using a really slow computer to look up Christmas carols for the Christmas performances that I'm supposed to get started on now.obviously a big thing here). Today I did! I feel old. maybe also because. I'm turning 22 tomorrow. Sunday, August 26, 2012. Location: Yilan City, Yilan County, Taiwan 260. We started visiting ...

Monday, July 30, 2012. Wolfback Ridge, Sausalito. Sculpture Beach, Point Reyes. Doesn't this look like the setting for a fairytale? That, or a horror movie right before the calm and happy opening is shattered by an axe-wielding mass murderer. Take your pick. Sunday, July 22, 2012. I think it only just hit me that I’m going to Taiwan. There are only three words for this: oh my god! Friday, July 13, 2012. Lavender Fields Forever (Drôme, France). Thursday, July 12, 2012. Keeping up with Chinese in Japan. Asymp; 1 Comment. Well, I promised I’d keep up with blogging here. I’m now quite settled into my new place in Tokyo. I’ve been here just over two months. My Japanese is coming along reasonably well considering my work at Outlier. Is essentially full-time (though I work from home, so I have a lot of flexibility). My Chinese doesn’t seem to have stagnated, but I’m not putting as much time into it as I would like. Here’s what I’m doing:. Asymp; 6 Comments. He’s been t...
