my quest to understand Chinese rice
Quality Rice: January 2009
http://chineserice-amy.blogspot.com/2009_01_01_archive.html
My quest to understand Chinese rice. Tuesday, January 27, 2009. I think most of my readership does not know Chinese. So I have to explain the pun in the title. Its a new year in China! Year of the cow/ox (I prefer cow, but I think its officially the ox). In Chinese, cow/ox is Niu (pronounced something like Nee-oh). Sounds like New, get it? I think its cute. Lots of cows for sale. A unicyclist on a rope carrying an acrobat below him. This was done over a frozen lake. Cute kid with a flower. Posted by Amy Z.

My quest to understand Chinese rice. Monday, September 28, 2009. A tale of 2 cities, 2 police forces. Having grown up in Pittsburgh with a lot of friends still there, it was interesting to hear what the people of Pittsburgh had to say about this meeting. Through online status updates and tweets I am able to summarize the following points:. Most people were pleasantly surprised at the lack of traffic in the city, despite having to take new routes to work. UPDATE: After I wrote this, I saw this article.
Quality Rice: Summer Ends
http://chineserice-amy.blogspot.com/2009/09/summer-ends.html
My quest to understand Chinese rice. Monday, September 7, 2009. Well, its technically Labor Day weekend in the US right now. I say technically because that does not really affect me here at all. However, it is symbolic in marking the ending of summer. The weather in Beijing is an indication that summer is over; its been cold and rainy all weekend. This is good for my marathon training (6 more weeks! I was in Harbin taking language classes. I got to spend some time in the countryside, but not that muc...
Quality Rice: September 2008
http://chineserice-amy.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
My quest to understand Chinese rice. Sunday, September 28, 2008. Well, I had a good story I was going to write about a meeting, but I will save that to post later this week. I am saving it because I feel I should say something about the tainted milk scandals that have been in the news throughout China. As you have probably have heard, there is a milk scandal brewing in China. If you haven't heard, look it up in the news. In the meantime, I am avoiding milk. Posted by Amy Z. Quality Rice: June 2009
http://chineserice-amy.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
My quest to understand Chinese rice. Monday, June 29, 2009. I had brown rice for the first time in over a year tonight. It was amazing. Everything about it tasted so good. Ever since I began focusing my research on rice (over 2 years ago), I've tasted a lot of different rice. Sometimes I prefer good, fragrant white rice. Other times I prefer good, nutty-flavored, healthy brown rice that I ate before starting this research. In China, white rice is the only option. Posted by Amy Z. Sunday, June 21, 2009.

chaotic soliloquy: reverb 10
http://dpfeldman.blogspot.com/2010/12/reverb-10.html
A blog about physics and math and teaching and music and travel and life at home. Wednesday, December 01, 2010. So I thought I would give this #reverb10. Thing a try. I'll only be able to do it up until the 15th, since I'll traveling from the 15th to the 30th and won't have internet access. And I may get bored with it before then. But for now, here goes. Prompt for December 1: One Word. For 2010, I guess the word would be frustrated. For 2011, maybe the word will be completed. My yelp.com reviews.
chaotic soliloquy: July 2010
http://dpfeldman.blogspot.com/2010_07_01_archive.html
A blog about physics and math and teaching and music and travel and life at home. Saturday, July 31, 2010. This is the first summer I haven't been to China in a long time. I had gone for six years in a row: 2004-2009. I miss it. I really like Beijing. It's a fun, lively, huge city with lots to do. And the food is awesome. I hope to return again soon. I've also enjoyed having a chance to exercise semi-regularly. We've had decent ultimate frisbee games downtown twice a week, and I've been doing yardwor...

http://dpfeldman.blogspot.com/2010_02_01_archive.html
A blog about physics and math and teaching and music and travel and life at home. Monday, February 08, 2010. We're exactly at the half-way point of our ten-week term. My class is moving along nicely, I think. I did a bunch of grading tonight so now I'm no longer criminally behind. Monday, February 01, 2010. From Cats Winter 09-10. chaotic soliloquy: Prompt 3: Moment
http://dpfeldman.blogspot.com/2010/12/prompt-3-moment.html
A blog about physics and math and teaching and music and travel and life at home. Sunday, December 05, 2010. Pick one moment during which you felt most alive this year. Describe it in vivid detail (texture, smells, voices, noises, colors). There were some other amazing moments from that trip. Twice we saw a trio of Northern Gannets fly by. They're intense-looking birds. Their name in French is better than English: Fou de Bassan. This summer I had time to do some research that involved some programming an...

chaotic soliloquy: Propmpt 2: Writing
http://dpfeldman.blogspot.com/2010/12/propmpt-2-writing.html
A blog about physics and math and teaching and music and travel and life at home. Saturday, December 04, 2010. Well, I'm already behind on this reverb10. Thing So maybe I won't worry about doing one a day, but will go through the daily prompts at my own pace. What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it? Who maybe should mind his own business. Anyway, now that I've gotten that out of my system, what stops me from writing? Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).
chaotic soliloquy: Holistic Cat Food
http://dpfeldman.blogspot.com/2010/10/holistic-cat-food.html
A blog about physics and math and teaching and music and travel and life at home. Monday, October 11, 2010. The local Hannaford is out of the dry cat food that I usually get. So the other day I was looking around for alternatives. "Nature's Place," Hannaford's natural or green brand, has a type of cat food called "holistic cat food." What could this possibly mean? Does the bag come with cat brain teasers and exercise devises to stimulate the mind and body as well as provide calories? Follow me on Twitter.
chaotic soliloquy: Turning Toward Winter
http://dpfeldman.blogspot.com/2010/10/turning-toward-winter.html
A blog about physics and math and teaching and music and travel and life at home. Sunday, October 31, 2010. It seems as if winter is here. I went for a run today at Witch Hole, and there was no one else on the trail. My only company were a few ducks and lots and lots of wet leaves and pine needles. Toward the end of my run it started snowing a little. It was awesome. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). My yelp.com reviews. My beeradvocate.com reviews. Follow me on Twitter. A blog about physics and math and teaching and music and travel and life at home. Wednesday, June 09, 2010. For a long time I've been a fan of Balance Bars. They're pretty tasty and a good snack when I'm hungry and need a little something to eat and don't want a full meal or anything. Yesterday I had a balance bar and for some reason my eye was drawn to the word "fish" on the list of ingredients. I wasn't even trying to read it, but the word just jumped out. Sunday, June 06, 2010.
