December 30, 2011. We spent the first week of winter break out west this year and had a blast. Winter is officially my favorite time to travel, just like our Virginia trip last year. Nothing is crowded and you really get a front-row view to all the attractions. We knew Big Bend. Sand-surfing at Monahans Sandhills State Park. A free suite upgrade at Alpine's historic Holland Hotel. And a fancy dinner at Reata. A fabulous view of the park from our room at the Chisos Mountain Lodge. On the way to New Mexico.
