The Chocolate Whisperer: The Gingerbread Church
http://chocolatewhisper-kir.blogspot.com/2014/12/the-gingerbread-church.html
IN the begining there was CHOCOLATE.and it was GOOD! Tuesday, December 16, 2014. Have I said how much I love the holidays? I love the holidays! One of the things I look forward to the most is creating gingerbread structures. It has become my tradition since 2010. This year, I decided to replicate a historic 1900 Episcopal church as I love the architecture. Close-up of the landscape:. While the gingerbread church was being created, this came together for the edible edifice's unveiling:. One week later, th...

IN the begining there was CHOCOLATE.and it was GOOD! Thursday, July 31, 2014. Gardening gives me happiness and a connection with the land, a responsibility with the soil from where I get amazing fruits. What a joy to harvest them and then, with those fruits, concoct marvelous and simple dishes to enjoy with family and friends. Tomatoes from my garden. Take my Caprese salad:. 2 beautifully ripe tomatoes, sliced. 1 ball buffalo mozzarella, sliced. 9679; ½. Cup fresh basil, mint and tarragon, chopped. Cut b...

IN the begining there was CHOCOLATE.and it was GOOD! Monday, September 8, 2014. 8220;He showed the words ‘chocolate cake’ to a group of Americans and recorded their word associations. ‘Guilt’ was the top response. If that strikes you as unexceptional, consider the response of French eaters to the same prompt: ‘celebration’”. Michael Pollan, In Defense of Food: An Eater’s Manifesto. We must celebrate chocolate! The trifle is a perfect way to start the celebration. My favorite Trifles are inspired by seaso...

IN the begining there was CHOCOLATE.and it was GOOD! Tuesday, April 14, 2015. Easter Dinner with a Sommelier Twist. According to the calendar, Spring is here. Yet, winter is adamant. It seems to be saying, 'I will not be forgotten anytime soon'. My garden is protesting winter's long stay. Defiantly, my crocuses and daffodils are blooming and the hostas are sprouting up. 'Yes', they say, 'Spring is here'. The meal started with. Nuts, and an assortment of olives. Reserve (Pinot Noir) from Alsace. 1981 Chât...

There's No Crying in Pastry: February 2012
http://theresnocryinginpastry.blogspot.com/2012_02_01_archive.html
Sunday, February 26, 2012. Coconut layer cake and lemon layer cake. Magazine had a stellar article and set of recipes from Ben Mims about Southern layer cakes. The photos were spectacular- -I bought the magazine in the first place because of the giant wedge of red velvet cake on the cover. I intend to bake each of the five recipes, so I started this weekend with the two that looked most intriguing to me. Sunday, February 19, 2012. What you'll be eating in 2013. Chocolate almond ice cream cake. So stay tu...

There's No Crying in Pastry: December 2011

Monday, December 26, 2011. Christmas cake and Christmas pup. Christmas cake: chocolate cake with vanilla buttercream. For Christmas, I got to make a baby's first Christmas cake for a very special baby, Sydney Mae. I decided to make another giant red bow because I'm really loving how my bows are looking lately. I like to make them hugely puffy (a quality, in truth, that's only desirable in a bow). Saturday, December 17, 2011. First birthday cake with vanilla cake and nutella buttercream. Sunday, July 31, 2011. Sour cream ice cream with blueberry swirl. The blueberry swirl is nothing more than a quick and dirty version of a jam. Feel free to use any summer fruit you have a surplus of. This recipe would be equally delicious with peaches or cherries. If you use cherries, throw in a BAY LEAF while it cooks. Trust me. You'll love it. I cackled with delight. A new recipe! In a bundt pan! A baking trifecta if I do say so myself. Sour cream ice cream with blueberry swirl. 380 mL whole milk.

Saturday, June 30, 2012. Here kitty, kitty. Vanilla cake with vanilla buttercream and strawberry jam. A cake for a very "girly-girl", as her mom put it. This cake was for Elizabeth who is graduating today. Her mom cuts Chris's hair at Aire Salon. Here in Jersey City- -a wonderful salon run by the enormously talented duo, Aiko and Racheal. For including such salacious details. Check out the Layers NYC facebook page. He's an airbrush hog, so this was a treat. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

There's No Crying in Pastry: there's nothing like Australia
http://theresnocryinginpastry.blogspot.com/2012/06/theres-nothing-like-australia.html
Saturday, June 2, 2012. There's nothing like Australia. I would love to move to Sydney. It's just gorgeous- -filled with parks and surrounded by water. The downtown area is all walkable and the outlying areas are connected by easy-to-navigate public transportation and a nifty ferry system. Becasse was located in a kick-ass mall in Sydney CBD. The mall had a myriad of mouth-watering options in their beautifully designed food court, as well as all the high-end shopping a girl could wish for. The ba...Secur...

There's No Crying in Pastry: pounds and pounds of butter
http://theresnocryinginpastry.blogspot.com/2012/06/pounds-and-pounds-of-butter.html
Sunday, June 24, 2012. Pounds and pounds of butter. Vanilla cake with chocolate buttercream. We don't get a lot of requests for chocolate buttercream so I haven't tasted it in a while. I'd forgotten how DELICIOUS something as simple as chocolate buttercream can be. I highly recommend it. We put in 3/4's of a pound of 55% chocolate in there so it was intensely chocolatey. We Ron-Ben'ed this baby. This is now a phrase by the way. To a blog that details the process. It's amazing. I'm still reeling from the ...

Sunday, April 22, 2012. Chocolate cake with vanilla bean buttercream. This Sea Lion cake and accompanying cupcakes were for Amelia's 8th birthday party at the Prospect Park Zoo. I can't remember what I did when I turned 8, but it certainly couldn't have been as cool as having your party at a zoo. The Sea Lion with just a buttercream coating, with his fondant skin in place. And lastly, headless, so you can see the Krispies interior. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom). View my complete profile.

Sunday, September 25, 2011. Zucchini, potato and leek crostata. I was baking last week but not blogging. Chris and I went to a funeral on Saturday and I was feeling very introspective. I made the tart, or crostata, pictured above, last weekend. Lovely, right? Chris kept driving me nuts by calling it a pizza. This is not a pizza. It is a savory crostata- -a medley of vegetables baked inside a buttery pie crust. CROSTATA. Ricotta ice cream with caramelized pistachios. And chocoate ice cream. The chocolate ...

11 November 2014 @ 11:02 pm. Has it really been almost a year? Reminiscing wouldn't be a right word, too much of a positive connotation. 'Looking back' would perhaps fit better. Reading past posts just feels surreal. It is only when you actually look back that you appreciate the value of journaling. Some emotions simply cannot be captured in any other way. Have I truly let go of the past? Working marks the start of a new phase in life and I am glad that it happened. Despite feeling like work stretche...
