Inviting children to notice is inviting children to become aware of the "possible things to observe about the literate world, about oneself, and about others [which] can open conversations among students who are noticing different things" (pg. 13). And bearing in mind that it becomes more difficult to focus on what is going well the more that we rely on expectations and standards. Rather, much "more important is noticing. Make children's learning lives less compartmentalized. Students are more likely to transfer their strategic problem-solving to other situations.
