Ashton Saylor: H: How to Write a Gamebook
http://www.ashtonsaylor.com/2012/04/h-how-to-write-gamebook.html
Monday, April 9, 2012. H: How to Write a Gamebook. I know this topic has been covered before, by other capable bloggers, but I'll go ahead and throw in my two pence, for what it's worth. Here's, my 8 step process to writing a gamebook:. First, come up with your idea. For me, this is usually a setting, or a character, or a certain decision I'd like to throw at the player, or some combination of the above. It usually starts small, but it can grow from there. 2) Flesh out the Story. Why does the reader care?

Ashton Saylor: April 2013
http://www.ashtonsaylor.com/2013_04_01_archive.html
Friday, April 26, 2013. Legend - a playthrough. Hi folks, I know what you're thinking. Two blog posts in one day? Well, the last wasn't really on-topic, so you get a freebie. Here's a journal of not one, but two play-throughs of Legend, by Endmaster. Endmaster's story-oriented work on the Storygames website is some of my favorite gamebook material out there, but Legend is more game-oriented. I'm curious to see how it plays out. While poking around the small town where I start, I run into Brenda, who I've...

At last, I feel like things are coming together. So what am I up to? Here's the things coming up from me:. August 27, 2014 at 5:13 PM. August 27, 2014 at 9:53 PM. All three of your current pro...

Ashton Saylor: Gamebooks
http://www.ashtonsaylor.com/p/gamebooks.html
My hobby is writing interactive fiction in the form of gamebooks. It's a small niche, but it's my niche, and I like it here. You never really feel done; every single one of these I would like to go back and revise and improve. But as I have more pressing projects, those revisions may never happen. In the meantime, here are the gamebooks I have written, to-date. Please enjoy! Peledgathol - The Last Fortress. My 2011 entry for the Windhammer Prize for Short Gamebook Fiction. Winner of a Merit Award! Lone Ti...

Ashton Saylor: Review of "Gunlaw" by Nicholas Stillman
http://www.ashtonsaylor.com/2014/02/review-of-gunlaw-by-nicholas-stillman.html
Sunday, February 9, 2014. Review of "Gunlaw" by Nicholas Stillman. So, something I like to do once in a while is grab some friends, usually geeky types who I happen to be hanging out anyway, and read one of these aloud to them. I made the mistake of doing that with Gunlaw, without previewing it myself first. On the plus side, we had a hilarious time. On the downside. *sigh* I would say this is the worst gamebook I've reviewed yet, if I hadn't reviewed "The Thing That Crawls" earlier this week. Once we re...
