In 1980, I was working as a computer programmer for the Kaiser Cement Company in Oakland, California. Another programmer, who worked there briefly, told me that he was practicing Zen. As a matter of courtesy, I asked him to tell me about it. He said, "We spend time sitting in silence, trying not to think". That seemed very strange to me. But, when I asked him about it, he had little else to say. Why would anyone spend time, trying not to think?

The month of July was an exciting month for Ken and I, we went to the San Juan Islands in Washington and chartered a sailboat which has become a new hoppy. We sailed around the islands for 7days. I am a propulsion design engineer at Blue Origin in Kent, WA, where I specialize in turbomachinery. I attended Franklin W. Olin College of Engineering in Needham, Massachusetts, majoring in mechanical engineering. My engineering interests lie in aerospace, vehicle design, and climbing equipment design. My non-engineering interests include mountaineering, backpacking, cooking, and sports. FEA done on an ice axe for the UIAA load case of a boot-axe belay. Flapping mechanism designed for an ornithopter.
