Chris and Jon in Cambodia: September 2008
http://chrisandjonincambodia.blogspot.com/2008_09_01_archive.html
Chris and Jon in Cambodia. A blog of our time in Cambodia - Chris and Jon de Groot. Monday, 15 September 2008. Hello from Cambodia 15. It is exactly 1 year since we arrived in Cambodia. Wow that was quick! The place has improved alot since then with many new buildings, including a theatre, and far more qualified staff. It is pleasing to think that some of this was made possible by money raised by Parmiter’s School. Jumping on the tourist trail we took the bus to Siem Reap and did the tour of the temples&...

Chris and Jon in Cambodia. A blog of our time in Cambodia - Chris and Jon de Groot. Thursday, 10 July 2008. Hello from Cambodia 14. Posing by London’s landmarks. By the end of the evening even the most staunch republicans were toasting the dear old Queen with a patriotic tear in their eye. Although that might have been more to do with the free Pimms! 8221; (a reference only understood by those who were under 5 in the 1980’s or their long suffering parents). Here is the latest picture of Touche’s gr...

Chris and Jon in Cambodia. A blog of our time in Cambodia - Chris and Jon de Groot. Sunday, 2 March 2008. Hello from Cambodia 11. The first workshop went quite well. We were supposed to be doing a small session for 3 or 4. Well you improvise; a bit of aluminium cooking foil in a plastic bag with toilet cleaner (21% HCl) added, plastic tubing from the local garage, a washing up bowl full of water and a plastic water bottle to collect the gas in. The scientist amongst you can figure out the details. Electr...
Chris and Jon in Cambodia: October 2007

Chris and Jon in Cambodia. A blog of our time in Cambodia - Chris and Jon de Groot. Friday, 19 October 2007. The potential for making some very big blunders with the language is huge but as yet we have not got further than “2 bottles of beer and a plate of chips please.”. Lunging at her and screaming with bared teeth. Perhaps the reaction to this insensitive intrusion into an intimate ritual was justified but it also rather disturbingly resembled a moment from “The Omen”. This heroic exploit has gone dow...

Chris and Jon in Cambodia. A blog of our time in Cambodia - Chris and Jon de Groot. Saturday, 23 May 2009. Hello from Cambodia 19. However for Khmer New Year we went back, for the last time, to our beloved Koh Chang. At last we have stopped scaring the children and in fact some of them actively seek us out with shouts of "Hello barrang, bye-bye". Here is a selection of some of our favorites. In fact, as we passed through neat little stations decorated with potted plants and white fences, we felt we could...

Anna in Cambodia: November 2008

The opinions expressed here are my own opinions. They do not necessarily reflect the views of VSO. Saturday, 22 November 2008. Off She Went With a Trumpety Trump. I left mum on Koh Chang, island of elephants, on Friday and she headed on to Singapore as I returned to Phnom Penh. But not before we had enjoyed what Koh Chang had to offer and we finished the holiday off in style with elephant riding, snorkelling and swimming in waterfalls. She was left on the (very tame) elephant for quite some time with no ...

The opinions expressed here are my own opinions. They do not necessarily reflect the views of VSO. Thursday, 28 May 2009. Holidays well and truly over, the first week back at work was jam packed with travelling back and forth, meetings and a really bad cold! Everyone who was involved participated really positively, the atmosphere was light and fun (Deirdre and I were very good at humiliating ourselves by singing the toilet song with actions, which helped! And the students were fantastic. And so the feeli...

The opinions expressed here are my own opinions. They do not necessarily reflect the views of VSO. Monday, 9 March 2009. Ok, huge apologies for the distinct lack of blog updates of late. My laptop and consequently all three of my memory sticks are riddled with viruses which has prevented me from uploading the most recent log entries and photos. I can't remember the exact context of the conversation we were having but Dad came out with this reference to himself and Colette, I nearly wet myself laughing and thought it was the perfect title of this blog entry. It was worth it however when we reached the Sida village, although I swear there was a quicker way there from the road!

The opinions expressed here are my own opinions. They do not necessarily reflect the views of VSO. Friday, 28 August 2009. It was an absolute pleasure to return home to Phnom Srok after another long stint out of the district and I had certainly been missed! My landlord was almost jumping for joy when I pulled up on my moto (either he was trying to distract his baby son from crying or he was relieved I was back to pay my electricity bill! And this time I stopped myself and decided to hand the problem over to my colleagues. There must be something we can do without going begging to a foreign organisation! I mean, lets encourage some self-sufficiency here! Some sustainable problem solving! My DOE colleague promised to request a meeting with the governor and there we left the matter. Links to this post. My Life's Simple Pleasures. Hogle Zoo- April 2010. Wednesday, August 11, 2010. Sunday, May 9, 2010. I can't believe Myah is eight! It seems such a short time ago when she couldn't say her R's and had the cutest raspy voice ever! Some of my favorited Myah quotes: When she would say Chlockolate instead of Chololate, "Wyan doesn't start with and R, Wyan starts with a W! Myah was able to have a fun Luau Birthday Party.
