A Caversham Garden: The garlic harvest is in
http://cavershamgarden.blogspot.com/2015/07/the-garlic-harvest-is-in.html
Growing food in a town garden. Sunday, 5 July 2015. The garlic harvest is in. All of the garlic in the garden has now been harvested. It was done in two batches: garlic in the main part of the garden was gathered in a couple of weeks ago and those in the veg bags, which were a different variety and matured slightly later, were picked a few days ago. There are plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to braid garlic. The ones I found most useful were:. 6 July 2015 at 09:43. Five a Day Market Garden. Permac...

http://cavershamgarden.blogspot.com/2013_09_01_archive.html
Growing food in a town garden. Saturday, 7 September 2013. Harvest 2013 - what's grown and what hasn't. Slightly leaning tower of runner beans! Pests, in general, have had minimal impact here with the exception of the turnip sawfly, which chomped its way through most of my sprouting broccoli seedlings ( http:/ cavershamgarden.blogspot.co.uk/2013/08/die-sawfly-die.html. Last year. A couple of friends have said that its effect lasts into the the second year and sometimes longer. I planted these out too ear...

Self-sufficient in Suburbia: Yet another stash of eggs
http://self-sufficientinsuburbia.blogspot.com/2015/07/yet-another-stash-of-eggs.html
We grow our own food in a suburban village in the North East of England. Follow us as we keep up the battle to be self-sufficient. Wednesday, 22 July 2015. Yet another stash of eggs. We've now found, by accident, where our cream legbars have been laying and hiding their eggs. I was watering the potato bags in front of some of the hives and there they were. Since removing the eggs, the hens have stopped laying there. So far, we've failed to find the new nesting site. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

http://self-sufficientinsuburbia.blogspot.com/2015/07/how-to-make-gooseberry-jam.html
We grow our own food in a suburban village in the North East of England. Follow us as we keep up the battle to be self-sufficient. Wednesday, 15 July 2015. How to make gooseberry jam. Some of the gooseberries I picked in my garden in London have now been used to make gooseberry jam. Gooseberries are full of pectin so you don't need to add lemon juice, apple or other high-pectin fruit to make the jam set. Do you do any further processing of your jams after pouring them in sterilized jars? In 2006 we took ...

Self-sufficient in Suburbia: Moving hay when the sun shines
http://self-sufficientinsuburbia.blogspot.com/2015/07/moving-hay-when-sun-shines.html
We grow our own food in a suburban village in the North East of England. Follow us as we keep up the battle to be self-sufficient. Monday, 27 July 2015. Moving hay when the sun shines. Our hay stack was moved recently as it was partly blocking a path to the allotment which is now being paved. So, the goo have was moved to a new stack (see photo above) and the not so good hay, which can be used for bedding, was put in a large pile in Pinkie's goat house. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). In 2006 we took...

Heat Surely this is the devil's parlor. The baked landscape leads farther than my fading will. How long have I been governed by the law of this heartless red world? The beast that carries me labors to breathe. I dismount. Blowing sand finds its way through my keffiyeh, stinging my eyes. I am surrounded by endless dunes. I fall to my knees and lift my hands to the sky. Check the window. No sun yet. She wasn't there last time. I look toward the door, it's almost shut. Who shut it? Delmon and the Dragon.
