Joining Heroku

http://chriscontinanza.com/2011/06/11/Heroku.html

Now that I‘ve crossed all the ts and dotted all the lower case js. I can let everyone know: I‘m going to be working at Heroku. That said, I‘ve begun putting my money where my mouth is and have started transitioning my sites to Heroku. First off, this site! Stay tuned because in the meantime I will be posting an add-on I built to github after I get it up and running on Heroku‘s Cedar Platform! Raquo; Node.js and Yun. Raquo; Machine Cloud Raspi-Shield v1 Build. Raquo; Heroku Deploy Visualizer.

Transitioning my Jekyll site to Heroku (Rack)

http://chriscontinanza.com/2011/06/15/Jekyll-to-heroku.html

Transitioning my Jekyll site to Heroku (Rack). Is mojombo‘s awesome and popular blogging platform for hackers. I transitioned my site to use it over Wordpress a while ago and haven‘t looked back. Jekyll generates a static html site from templates you create with liquid and markdown. Usually, the generated site is .gitignored and is regenerated on every deploy. This works great for static site hosts, but what about Heroku? Here‘s my config.ru:. Static files root dir. Try these postfixes sequentially.

Introducing IMGKit

http://chriscontinanza.com/2010/12/12/Introding-IMGKit.html

I recently discovered JD Pace’s PDFKit. In the search for better ways to do things. It’s a great solution for generating PDF files from html sources. It is basically a wrapper for the open source executable wkhtmltopdf. Is simple: use the rendering engine of browser without the GUI to generate PDFs and you’ll have pages that look exactly like they render on the web and get updated when the browsers do! It turns out wkhtmlto image. Does for JPGs what wkthmlto pdf. Does for PDFs. Woot! It turns out you can...

Node.js and Yun

http://chriscontinanza.com/2013/12/14/NodeJS-and-Yun.html

Getting your microcontroller-based hardware projects online is in still many cases a battle between the ease of use of arduino’s I/O yet difficult to use wifi versus’s linux’s battle tested tcp stack yet difficult to use I/O. There are merits to all solutions, some of which simply include pairing a linux machine to handle networking to an arduino and having the two communicate over a USB connection using the Serial protocol. My first mission was to try to get Node.js on the Lininuo computer running.

Hello, strace (an introduction to strace)

http://chriscontinanza.com/2010/09/19/Hello-strace.html

Hello, strace (an introduction to strace). If you haven’t seen it, check out Aman Gupta’s talk on using C tools to debug ruby. After watching this talk, I was all fired up to use strace to shed light on just exactly what’s going on when I’m running Ruby code. Strace [ -dffhiqrtttTvxx ] . [ -ofile ] [ -ppid ] . [ command [ arg . ] ]. From the man pages:. So let’s start with the simplest of cases. To strace Ruby’s hello world, we’re going to take advantage of the -e flag. e means “Eva...Now for a little.

ChrisContent | a sometimes-journal of living abroad

A sometimes-journal of living abroad. Here’s something new. Since arriving and settling in Dar es Salaam, my wife and I have joined the yacht club. That feels pretentious writing that, but it’s a great thing to be able to hang out and do things on the water here. I started DJing there every month, and so here’s a mix of songs inspired by our nights sitting next to the ocean. (Hint: increase picture quality at bottom right to 720p to get better sound quality too.). There is now a part two to this mix:.
