An Architecture of Comfort and Efficiency. Monday, June 2, 2014. The SmartThings Shield for Arduino. This post builds upon the my previous post Make Your Own Internet of Things. In which I described how to use Arduino, XBee, and the ZigBee protocol to, well, make your own internet of things. A proprietary wireless protocol) and Wifi protocols, along with the ability to connect to devices in the cloud. The company also claims that I will eventually add Bluetooth compatibility. This shield opens the door f...

The Honest Aesthetic : February 2014
http://blog.chriscrosley.com/2014_02_01_archive.html
An Architecture of Comfort and Efficiency. Monday, February 17, 2014. I claim that all of nature is beautiful, and many would agree, but who can claim that none of nature is beautiful? Yet, nothing in nature exists solely for beauty. There is always an functional, productive reason for its existence, yet it is beautiful. We admire nature for the elegance and efficiency with which it accomplishes a purpose. The true effects of architecture are comfort and efficiency. Subscribe to: Posts (Atom).

The Honest Aesthetic : Make Your Own "Internet of Things"
http://blog.chriscrosley.com/2014/05/make-your-own-internet-of-things.html
An Architecture of Comfort and Efficiency. Thursday, May 22, 2014. Make Your Own "Internet of Things". Arduino, XBee, and ZigBee. I've been very interested lately in the intersection of architecture and the Internet of Things. The goal of this post is to outline some of the research I have been doing. I hope it provides a springboard for your curiosity. As always, comments are encouraged. There are only two types of objects in the internet of things: sensors and triggers. And the Arduino Ethernet with POE.

An Architecture of Comfort and Efficiency. Friday, March 28, 2014. Assumptions of the Future. Below is a list of changes that I assume will happen in my lifetime and in some cases are already apparent. This is an optimistic imagining of the way I hope our future unfolds, not a dooms day critique or a scientific analysis. Please stay your criticism and imagine a better future with me because this is the first step to realizing it. I look forward to your comments and ideas! The universal availability of en...

The Honest Aesthetic : April 2014
http://blog.chriscrosley.com/2014_04_01_archive.html
An Architecture of Comfort and Efficiency. Tuesday, April 1, 2014. In the Name of Vitality. Why Must Sustainability be a Sacrifice? It is argued that “sustainable design” is required to prevent global destruction, and that we must sacrifice expense or comfort for the sake of the world. It is no wonder, then, that the movement has failed to gain main stream acceptance. Only the masochistic would accept such a decree. Must I put my environment above myself? Were will the line be drawn? In the Name of Vital...
