Putting on the Brakes: June 2009
http://mskimberlytan.blogspot.com/2009_06_01_archive.html
Sunday, June 28, 2009. I speak English good. It's funny, I was just speaking with my good friend D last week when the conversation turned into a rant about English teachers - I mean, the bad ones! 1 Resumes of actually experienced teachers (even one year counts! Who clearly "get it" because their devotion, ingenuity, and interest in teaching comes through crystal clear. Very intrested in position" and.well, one Italian guy emailed me in completely incoherent English and said something like, "I like v...

Putting on the Brakes: July 2009
http://mskimberlytan.blogspot.com/2009_07_01_archive.html
Wednesday, July 15, 2009. June and July are the most humid months in Shanghai, called the “plum rain” days of summer, because it’s both plum season and incredibly rainy/muggy/sticky season. Basically, ick. Three showers a day kind of ick, and one of the main reasons I’m glad to be leaving Shanghai …clearly. Well, I like to look back and see how I’ve really come to accept this place and the many sides of it, and how thankful I am for the incredible opportunity I was given. Tuesday, July 7, 2009. Usually l...

Putting on the Brakes: April 2009
http://mskimberlytan.blogspot.com/2009_04_01_archive.html
Saturday, April 18, 2009. John legend in the 'hai. Behold, photos from a quite tame John Legend concert on April 8 at Shanghai's 云峰戏院 (YunFeng) Theater. But because the theater was relatively small and we sat up on the balcony, I got some really great shots! Friday, April 10, 2009. Lyrics to the theme song of my new favorite tv show.albeit sad, but actually.true. PS Check my translation - I'm no poet :). 我很好("I'm Fine"). In the winter when it snows and I have you. But I love you so much. Try to forget you.

Putting on the Brakes: thanks naini

Saturday, May 9, 2009. Always try to help a friend in need. Be brave.but it's ok to be afraid sometimes. Give lots of kisses. Don't be overly concerned with your weight, it's just a number. Always try to see the glass half full. Meet new people, even if they look different to you. Remain calm, even when it seems hopeless. Take lots of naps. Be weird whenever you have the chance. Love your friends, no matter who they are. Take an occasional risk. Try to have a little fun each day. Work together as a team.

Putting on the Brakes: October 2008
http://mskimberlytan.blogspot.com/2008_10_01_archive.html
Friday, October 31, 2008. And so when life starts picking up the pace, I realize, sadly, just how easy it is to lose touch with friends - even family - back home. And when life in the States get busy, it's harder to remember your friends that live halfway across the world. How do people who go abroad deal with this (ahem, enter Julie, Daniel, Missy? What a flake, right? I guess all this is a direct result of moving 7,000 miles away from home. Ha. It's certainly a learning experience though. Or maybe it w...

Putting on the Brakes: February 2009
http://mskimberlytan.blogspot.com/2009_02_01_archive.html
Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Post has been modified. It just got better. Sort of.*. How are you, kim? I'm - - . And i wanna apologize to you for my words on class today. I shoulden't say your class is "stupid". you know my english is poor and what i mean is "too simple". I am so sorry for all this. Thanks for your apology. I suggest you give the class - and yourself - a chance before you judge it as too simple. You can only learn and improve if you put in your best effort. Ugh, I really really hate.

In the winter when it snows and I have you. I don’t feel the cold, even in the very depth of it all. In the spring when the flowers bloom and you’ve gone. I’m here, and I don’t go anywhere without you. But I love you so much. And I want us to be forever. But you’re on the other side of the world. How do I say that to you? Try to forget you.

Putting on the Brakes: a lot to say
http://mskimberlytan.blogspot.com/2009/05/moment.html
Sunday, May 10, 2009. A lot to say. If you've kept in touch with me lately, you've heard me complain about the "children" I teach here in Shanghai. Yes, I do teach kindergarteners, actual "children" on the side, but for my daytime job, I teach 20-somethings at the university level, and they just about make me wanna pull my hair out every day! Gabs constantly shook her head at inadequate table manners and taught them the right way. Medina was the role model of the century with her impeccable classroom...
