Wednesday, May 14, 2014. Today I would like to introduce DynamicXray. A UIKit Dynamics runtime visualisation and introspection library for iOS. If you have done any work with UIKit Dynamics you may have found that it can be difficult to debug and fine tune the behaviour. UIKit Dynamics is driven by a rigid body physics engine (. In fact) which gives the developer a lot of power, but the abstract nature of the framework can make it difficult to see under the hood of the physics simulation. Visually differ...

Chris Miles Writes Python: September 2009

Chris Miles Writes Python. Chris Miles writes about the Python programming language. Wednesday, September 30, 2009. BlastOff 0.2 released. 02 has now been released. BlastOff is a quickstart template for Pylons. It is a substitute for the simple boilerplate template that Pylons provides out-of-the-box. Use BlastOff to generate a Pylons skeleton configured with SQLAlchemy. The generated app is pre-configured with authentication, login and registration forms, and (optionally) email confirmation.

Dual Authentication in Pylons with repoze.who. Mar 3rd, 2009 at 9:54 PM. I talked about using custom authentication for a web application, supporting two methods of authentication simultaneously. Browser-based users would be challenged with a typical styled login form, while applications integrating with the service would be challenged with HTTP Basic Authentication. The choice of which authentication to use would be based on how clients are classified. Taking advantage of content negotiation. Then after...

E pur si muove. Python System Information is a python extension module providing real-time information on processes and other miscellanious system information such as architecture, bootime and filesystems. Originally started by Chris Miles. In late 2007 I started contributing in early 2009. The project is hosted on bitbucket. And we're always keen to add more information and cover more platforms. I am the maintainer of the plotutils. Which is pretty low maintenance really. In shape in the Debian archive.

Chris Miles Photography: January 2010
http://chrismiles-photography.blogspot.com/2010_01_01_archive.html
Monday, January 18, 2010. I enjoy HDR photography. Which can produce some really vibrant and interesting results. Typically, HDR images are made by combining and tonemapping. Multiple exposures into a single image, taking advantage of the wide dynamic range provided by combining multiple exposures of the same scene. I recently discovered that Photomatix Pro. Than typical monitors/printers (although not as high as multiple combined exposures) which good HDR/tonemapping software can take advantage of.

Quickly create SMF service manifests for Solaris using Manifold. Feb 11th, 2009 at 9:57 PM. I find SMF (in Solaris and OpenSolaris) to be the best thing to happen to service management since someone decided that runlevels and symlinks were a handy way to control services at startup and shutdown. No more init.d scripts . win. For that reason I recently put together a little tool called Manifold. Manifold memcached.xml The service category (example: 'site' or '/application/database') [site] The name of...

RESTful HTTP with Dual Authentication. Feb 20th, 2009 at 12:35 PM. For a recent web service project I wanted to make it as RESTful. As possible. It needed to provide both a user interface (for interactive users) as well as exposing an API for programmatic integration. So I implemented both, but the two are not separate. Every applicable resource is exposed under only one URI each, usable by both interactive users (with web browsers) and by applications. The "magic" of HTTP content negotiation. To keep wi...

Mirrored swap with zfs on OpenSolaris. Feb 13th, 2009 at 9:34 PM. I recently installed OpenSolaris. 200811 on my development server (highly recommended, btw). Out-of-the-box it installs with zfs. Root filesystems (a relatively new feature. After installing a second disk, mirroring the root filesystem was as easy as a zpool attach command (after partitioning and labelling the disk for Solaris use). Pre-Solaris 10 days I would configure mirrored swap (and root) using Disksuite. Pfexec zpool create -m legac...

Australia and New Zealand. Ldquo;Hilarious, addictive, brilliantly-warped. like Judd Apatow and Seth Rogen crossed with Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Stuart Gibbs, New York Times. Bestselling author of the Spy School. Ldquo;Funny, heartfelt, and likely to appeal to reluctant readers, especially boys on the cusp of puberty”.
