Readers Don’t Like to Be Shouted At: Why one exclamation point is probably too many. July 30, 2014. Every editor has his or her pet peeves: certain writing errors that drive us crazy. Some grind their teeth at run-on sentences, made-up words like supposably, or the improper use of it’s. My editing pet peeve is the exclamation point. Why? Because it’s the one mistake that writers fight me on more than any other. I’m not the only editor who routinely deletes! In both cases, you probably didn’t find many.

He started his working life at 16 as an apprentice in a commercial art studio - sweeping floors and washing water pots, progressing to Lettering Artist, Graphic Artist and Studio Manager, eventually becoming Director of a Design Consultancy in Covent Garden for 25 years. He has now made his home in Bridport, Dorset and is concentrating on views of the local area - in various media and in a diversity of styles.
